She's done: The 28-year-old model wrote on the social media site on Thursday, 'I feel sick. Bye Twitter. Taking my talents to Instagram.'
While the Parliament remained on lockdown the star tweeted: 'Active shooting in Canada, or as we call it in America, Wednesday.
'That's not a joke. It is a fact.'
While the Sports Illustrated star thought her comment drew attention to America's gun control debate, many on Twitter were outraged telling the model to 'stick to having your picture taken'. Some users took it a step further, telling her she would 'get yours soon enough.'
However, the wife of John Legend refused to back down.
She wrote: 'Sorry you don't understand that is a knock at America and our issues with gun control. No one is minimizing the Ottawa shooting.
Making a statment: The 28-year-old model took to social media as news of the shooting - which has left one solider and the alleged gunman dead - in the county's capital Ottawa spread
'I'm not apologizing. If you take it wrong, that is your fault.'
When users started to accuse Chrissy of being unfeeling, she explained that shootings like this have led to her losing faith in the world.
'I've lost faith in this world. Sorry if it comes off as being unemotional. There is just so much bad.'
Standing up for her right to make the comment, which she repetitively argued was not a joke, the cover girl then started to take on those who criticised her directly, retweeting their comments.
Not backing down: The model explained herself but refused to apologise despite criticism
Summing up 90 percent of the negative comments she retweeted one Twitter user, Daniel Bennett's tweet: 'You should probably stick to having your picture taken for a living.'
When another wrote, 'The temperature where you are or your IQ, which one is higher?' she responded, 'What an original, complex insult'.
After three hours of near constant abuse, Chrissy admitted: 'It's been a while since I inadvertently pissed a ton of people off. Forgot how much it sucks.'

In the end, the star did backtrack slightly saying she did not mean to take the attention away from the Canadian tragedy and focus on America.
Responding to a supporter who said they appreciated her joke, the model wrote: 'Thank you but it honestly wasn't a joke. But I shouldn't have made it about us.'
Her comments came as downtown Ottawa remained on lockdown after the Parliament came under attack early Wednesday.
Police have identified the gunman Michael Zehaf-Bibeau, 32.
