A dog day afternoon: Pixie Geldof and Nick Grimshaw take their pooches for a walk in Primrose Hill

There's many perks of being a breakfast radio DJ, and no doubt one of the best ones is being able to have every afternoon off.

So on Thursday Nick Grimshaw made the most of his free time by taking his dog for a walk near his home in Primrose Hill.

The Radio 1 DJ was joined by his pal Pixie Geldof who brought her little pup along too.

Nick was walking his new bull terrier Pig while Pixie - who lost her sister Peaches earlier this year - brought along her long haired Chihuahua Buster Sniff.

Grimshaw already has a Jack Russell rescue dog called Puppy, but the whereabouts of his first dog, a mixed breed called Lex rescued from Battersea Dogs & Cats Home, is unknown.

Nick said he took Lex in after crying his eyes out during episodes of Paul O'Grady's For The Love Of Dogs, but apparently when his friend Aimee moved into his home with her dog Thurston, the rescue mutt had to go.

Low profile: Geldof wore a khaki parka with jeans, a yellow jumper and black boots on Thursday

Pals: Nick was joined by his friend Aimee Phillips, sadly without her dog Thurston

The DJ was no doubt in a good mood after learning that his radio show had secured an extra 300,000 listeners in the last quarter.

According to the official RAJAR figures the BBC Radio 1 breakfast show reached a total of 5.8m weekly listeners across the last three months until October 23, compared to last year at the same time.

However, it is still 200,000 listeners down on 2012's 6 million achievement.

Host with the most: Nick will be master of ceremonies at the Barclaycard Mercury Prize

The presenter co-hosted the BBC Radio 1 Teen Awards over the weekend with Rita Ora but they won't be reuniting at the Brits next year.

Speaking at a press conference, Nick said: 'No, we're not [doing the Brits]. I'm doing the Mercurys, though.'

The Barclaycard Mercury Prize takes place on Wednesday 29th October and sees FKA twigs, Kate Tempest, Damon Albarn, Royal Blood, Nick Mulvey, Bombay Bicycle Club and seven other artists vying for the 2014 title.

Don't forget your pooper scoop! Here's hoping Pixie isn't too posh to pick up
