However the network has neither confirmed or denied will.i.am's return to the show, simply saying the casting decisions for next year are not set in stone as of yet.

Reports also swirled earlier this year that the celebrity was difficult to work with on set, with audience members also weighing in on the star's behaviour claiming that he seemed to be high during the live shows.

However his contestant Anja Nissen spoke out in defence of the Black Eyed Peas frontman in an interview with Woman's Day in July.

'His mind is always going. Some people think he's stoned but he's not at all!' she told the publication.

'That's how Will is, he's constantly thinking.'

Kristal West from duo ZK was also quick to defend her famous coach of the hit reality talent series.

'When Will looks like he's zoning out, he's creating things in his head,' she said.

The It's My Birthday rapper not only got audience members talking during this year's series, but also coached the winning star of the show.

His 18-year-old contestant Anja took out the final prize, and he maintained his coaching duties following the reality show victory.

After winning the show in July, Anja told the Nine Network she went straight into the studio with will.i.am after the grand final, adding 'we talked about what was next, and he gave me a lot of industry advice.'

Anja then worked with will.i.am on a new record, their collaboration coming after will.i.am decided to axe her planned debut single My Girls.

'We had a lot of ideas for a song, and will.i.am decided that he didn't necessarily want me to do that one,' she said at the time.
