Power couple Beyonce and Jay Z show their support for pal Jake Gyllenhaal at the New York premiere of Nightcrawler

He's already earned rave reviews for his performance in gritty drama Nightcrawler.

So superstar couple Beyonce Knowles and Jay Z couldn't wait to watch the VIP screening of their friend Jake Gyllenhaal's new film at the AMC Loews Lincoln Square in New York City on Monday evening.

The A-listers showed their support on the red carpet at the premiere by posing on either side of Jake.

The unlikely trio are firm friends, with the Donnie Darko actor even starring in a Bonnie and Clyde-style mini-movie to promote the musical megastars' joint On The Run summer stadium tour.

Beyonce donned double denim for the occasion, opting for a casual baggy short and form-fitting jeggings.

She added a rock 'n' roll edge to the outfit with a black hat and heeled boots.

Music mogul Jay Z smartened up in a navy blazer with a leather trim and baggy jeans, accessorising with a silver necklace.

50 Cent also turned up to wish his buddy well on his big night after the pair struck up a friendship on the set of their upcoming boxing flick Southpaw.

Jake plays freelance LA crime journalist Louis Bloom in the thriller, which co-stars Rene Russo, Bill Paxton and Riz Ahmed.

The 33-year-old Oscar-nominee looked suitably dapper for his turn in the spotlight.

He donned a fitted black suit and matching shirt worn sans tie, paired with grungy well-worn brown boots.

Curtis, 39, also put in effort, wearing a blue and grey checked shirt and a black jacket with shiny blue accents on the shoulders that ran down the sleeves, teamed with more casual jeans.

Co-star Rene looked far younger than her 60 years in a sexy black and silver short-sleeved dress that hit just above the knees.

The frock was cinched in at the waist showing off her shapely figure, while a pair of strappy black heels accentuated her long, toned legs.

She wore her long strawberry blonde locks in cascading curls and kept her make-up fresh and natural.

Bill kept it casual in his neutral ensemble, consisting of sandy-coloured khakis and a beige long-sleeved collared sweater with zipper detail at the neckline, worn with brown boots.

The 59-year-old took along wife Louise Newbury as his date, the pretty brunette opting for dark blue and black hues in her simple pantsuit.

Jake and Rene displayed their easy, natural rapport with one another as they posed together for photographers, the pair clearly sharing great chemistry.

Of course, there's nothing to worry about, with the Ransom star having been happily married to Nightcrawler writer and director Dan Gilroy for 22 years.

It was a busy day all in all for Jake, who spent the morning shooting scenes for new movie Demolition in New York's Grand Central Station prior to hitting the red carpet.

The heartthrob was all dressed up in his lead role as an investment banker in charcoal checked dress pants, a white shirt, long black woollen winter coat and snazzy brown leather shoes.

At one point between takes, he was seen having a laugh with a police officer who was standing off to the side of the set with his German Shepherd on a leash.

The dramedy, co-starring Naomi Watts, is set for release next year, while Nightcrawler hits cinemas on Friday.
