At the event, Zendaya helped the kids decorate their own UNICEF boxes to take home before speaking during an assembly where she explained to them what the campaign was all about.

To help the children understand the program, she connected with them by sharing what the Trick-Or-Treat boxes mean to her and how the money they collect can benefit several young ones around the world who may be less fortunate than them.

In addition to the collection boxes, students and parents can give charitable donations online for the first time using Crowdrise where families can set up personal pages instead of going door-to-door.

On Monday, Zendaya stopped by Good Morning America to share her early experiences with the charity.

'This is something that was really really important to me when I was younger,' she said. 'I started doing it in school and what I think is really important is it got me in the spirit of learning how to give back at a young age, which I think is important.'

Adding: 'If we instill that in the young kids, especially the young kids that watch me on television if they see me being a part of it even at 18 then it becomes almost like habit and you kind of get used to that selfless feeling which I think is important so I'm really really lucky to be a part of it.'

She was first announced as a spokesperson for UNICEF in early September and even starred in a commercial for the cause.

In a statement, Zendaya shared: 'It was such an empowering experience to be able to make a difference. Kids need more than candy; they need basics like medicine, nutrition and clean drinking water, and millions of them wouldn’t have these things without UNICEF.'

'I’m really excited to celebrate this year by inspiring a new generation of kids to be Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF superheroes that help save other kids’ lives.'
