Fashionably late: Solange Knowles arrives two hours behind for Derby Day in geometric ensemble before performing short DJ set in the Lavazza marquee

She was over two hours late arriving at Flemington racecourse on Saturday, but at least she looked good when she finally made it. 

Solange Knowles, the younger sister of superstar Beyonce, hit the red carpet a bit later than intended following a last minute dash to the shops to find an outfit.

It's not known if the Lavazza ambassador hadn't been made aware of the black and white dress code or didn't like the options she brought with her, but she eventually arrived in a two piece striped outfit by Australian designer Josh Goot.

The 28-year-old opted to sport her traditional curly hair do, rather than wearing the traditional racing fascinator.

VIPs including Bambi Northwood-Blyth and her husband Dan Single, Cassie Howarth and Nick Westaway descended into the Lavazza tent ahead of Solange's gig.

She was one of the performers on the day for Lavazza, playing a 30 minute DJ set, which was delayed for around 15 minutes as the musician struggled with a technical issue.

The Lovers In The Parking lot artist raised eyebrows when she refused to pose with a Lavazza coffee cup, even when the head of the company came out and asked her. 

The DJ is said to have looked somewhat bemused when the music was turned down while the race was on. 

Knowles who is also the founder of music label, Saint Heron Records, will only be in Australia for the weekend as she is scheduled to fly back to America for work.

Solange has been asked to curate nightly stage performances for the SELECT art fair in Miami this December.

The US performer wasn't the only star to appear at the Italian coffee themed marquee.

Fellow American singer-songwriter Erykah Badu also attended the Lavazza venue, as well as son of Rolling Stones guitarist, Ronnie, Tyrone Woods.
