Zelda 25th anniversary will be special - Nintendo

It will be different from the Mario anniversary says Reggie

Reggie Fils-Aime has promised fans that Nintendo has something special planned for the 25th anniversary of The Legend Of Zelda.

The 25th anniversary of The Legend Of Zelda's release in Japan passed without much fuss but Nintendo's US boss has told IGN that it will be a different story over here.

The Legend Of Zelda was originally released in the US and UK in 1987, meaning Link will be celebrating his 25th next year. So what's the plan? "We showed the logo for the 25th anniversary," said Fils-Aime. "On stage [at GDC], Mr Iwata said we're working on something that will excite the fans of Zelda.

"At this point that's all we're going to say. We're not going to give any clues as to what that celebration might be. All I can tell you is that it's going to be different to what we did with Mario. But it will be just as special."

So it will be different from Mario's 25th anniversary. So that means you shouldn't expect a compilation of old Zelda games. What do you think Nintendo should do to mark Zelda's 25th anniversary in the UK.

The Legend of Zelda: The Movie. I'd bet my left foot on it.

    Oh I wish...

I'm sure it'll either be either a montage of the greatest games. They've done Zelda, Zelda II, OoT and MM on one disc, so they probably put Wind Waker, Oracle of Seasons/Ages, Links Awakening and something else on the Wii or 3DS.

They should sneak out a completely top secret new zelda game, that would justify the skyward sword wait and all zelda fans including myself will be over the moon.

Re make the orginal zelda game and put it on wiiware

Perhaps a re-release of Wind Waker on the Wii, like they did with Pikmin and Mario Tennis for GC? I would give my right foot for that.

    Nuff said :D

  12. lukrid Tuesday 8th Mar 2011 at 14:35

Seasons and Ages remade for the 3ds, aswell as a new game along the ocarina of time time scale, maybe even hilarious other game references, like the windwaker lost woods kids looking quite a lot like pikmin :p

but main thing id LOVE is seasons and ages, they nearly bumped ocarina off the top spot for me ... ''NEARLY'' ..

ocarina, windwaker composing.. stick, thing.. harps, other instruments, please dont give him a guitar -.-

Wouldn't it be funny if they released the official timeline.

As it probably will not be a compilation like Mario I reckon it will a new handheld game as skyward sword was for wii yet ocarina 3ds was a remake, so maybe a game where Link flies a plane...yeah, an awesome plane.

  17. MrChewtoy Tuesday 8th Mar 2011 at 16:39

No idea what they'll do. But I've been thinking about a Zelda themed 3DS ever since I saw that picture months back.

Its not going to be that special then.

I'd like to see some brand new content on Wiiware but I doubt we will get anything like that.

I hope not because I want the 3DS this year. Don't want to wait another year to get a 3DS. Maybe a LOZ MM 3DS.

I wouldn't mind a wii Wind waker or 3DS (I'm hoping that they make a 3DS WW). I was looking forward to all the old zelda games in one box, Never played them so was hoping to get it if they made one

I so hope that is the box-art that will be released! It certainly looks real and the console itself looks fantastic! My only issue is that it comes with Links awakening. IM NOT SAYING THAT'S A BAD THING! But I just think that might mean it's fake.

    I would like to see:

    Wind Waker 3ds

Legend of Zelda remade in glorious 3d!

    Anime LOZ movie!

Or a LOZ 25th anniversary Smash Brothers brawl 3d with additional characters from the zelda universe!

    .....the mind wanders on!

    1) OOT and OOS in one game catridge, for the DS but extra features for the 3DS, as were the originals for GameBoyColour and Advance. You can treat them if they were different games, so you can transfer between them as you can on the Game Boy. Suprise game, they won't mention a thing until it comes out.

    Plus...
    2) Zelda timeline. All the info we need. Maybe bundled with the game I mentioned above?

    That would be special...
    Please!!

    Tell us.

  28. dizzy boy Tuesday 8th Mar 2011 at 21:59

for starters they could reduce the amount of star points they want for the zelda figurine in the stars catalougue.
they could run a comic book story that actually runs in chronological order.
udon comics did a fantastic job on the street fighter comics, so nintendo could pick them.
offer all of the zelda games on the vc for half price for a short period of time.
    history of zelda artwork book.

They could release that and the time line all in one! also liking the idea of the 3rd comment, maybe graphic update of 1st zelda for the last game?

  32. Medevac Wednesday 9th Mar 2011 at 14:00

If its another Phantom Hourglass/Spirit Tracks game for the 3DS, it would officially be the worst surprise ever.

  33. Violet Wednesday 9th Mar 2011 at 14:22

So wait, are they celebrating the anniversary this year or are we going to have to wait until next year? Because that's what this article implies.

  34. ACRID Wednesday 9th Mar 2011 at 15:38

    One sublime package which has:
    - A remake of Legend of Zelda AND Zelda 2 using an upgraded Twilight Princess engine.
    - History of Zelda book detailing the official time line and loads of nice images of early drawings and stuff.
    - Wii disc containing EVERY Zelda game ever made, including the rubbish Philips CDI games where you can do the "duck walk" and Link sounds like an idiot.

All in a lovely box shaped like the Master Sword.

  35. NULL Wednesday 9th Mar 2011 at 15:52

I'm not sure we'll be getting anything in the way of a box of games altogether, as it says in the article,

It won't be like the Mario anniversary, but it will be special.

So bundle of games is likely a no-no.

I would like to see OOA/OOS bundled in a pack though.

Better be something good though, it's one of their biggest franchises.

Only your middle selection has any likelihood of happening, I hope you realise that.

Remaking anything in the Twilight Princess engine would take ages, especially two games that play very differently. It would be like making them from scratch.

And releasing every single Zelda game on one disc would destroy Virtual Console sales, so that won't happen either.

  37. Everegreen Wednesday 9th Mar 2011 at 20:52

^^Right about being worse suprise ever if its like Spirit Tracks or Phantom Hourglass

To be honest I'm cool if we don't get a game, but a book on Zelda videogame and story history (including timeline) will be awesome. The book should include a detailed official encyclopedia of all things Zelda, and detailed maps and plans for the games.

As so many have already said, this is pretty likely (unless we're all just hopeful fools). After all, it's a fair amount of time after the 3DS release for them to polish and localise the product.

If it does turn out to be a compilation, it could be Oracle of Seasons/Ages, Four Swords and A Link to the Past, either Wii or DS but most likely Wii.

I haven't seen the logo yet, but you can bet Nintendo are planning something really special.

Immediate reaction was, an awesome Zelda-themed 3DS, fueled even more by that one bundle picture. (I would kill for it to be real x) )

I really really think I want whatever this is going to be so I hope I'll keep in mind saving some money... being able to pay ANY possible price :D

I would love it if they rereleased the 3 Zelda Satellaview games (of course as well in english):
    *BS Zelda no Densetsu
*BS Zelda no Densetsu: Inishie no Sekiban
*Zelda no Densetsu: Kamigami no Triforce

now that would be really worth it.

  46. Shigeru Saturday 12th Mar 2011 at 09:13

How long 'till Metroid's 25th? Maybe we'll finally get that Metroid DX - a color version of Metroid II that was orginaly going to be released for the Gameboy Color before it was canned - that we were promised over a decade ago.

As for Zelda? Shigsy is probably already pondering over the next big Zelda game. Wich given the time between games will probably be on the Wii's successor.

  47. layton lover Saturday 12th Mar 2011 at 14:33

I really don't know what they will do, but i can't wait to find out. I want Wind waker involved somehow.
