Before the ABA and NBA merged in 1976, the two leagues were bitter rivals. They did manage to get together for two games in the early 1970's, these games were simply known as "The Supergame". Few people thought the ABA players were good enough to play with NBA players. However the NBA squeaked by with a five point win in 1971 and a two point win in 1972. Both of these victories were not without turmoil, as the NBA shot more than 40 free throws in each game (NBA refs were used). After 1972, tension between the leagues stopped the Supergame from taking place. After the merger in 76, the NBA was believed to have destroyed most copies of the 1971 Supergame.
