SNL's Cecily Strong to host 2015 White House Correspondents' Dinner... becoming fourth female comedian to headline annual event

Saturday Night Live's Cecily Strong will host the 2015 White House Correspondents' Dinner.

'Her political humor is sly and edgy, and it comes with a Chicago accent,' White House Correspondents' Association president Christi‎ Parsons said in a statement on Wendesday.

The 30-year-old becomes the fourth female comedian to headline the event in its 82-year history, joining the ranks of past hosts Paula Poundstone, Elayne Boosler, and Wanda Sykes.

According to the WHCA press release, Strong 's family has strong ties to journalism - her father, Bill Strong, is a former Associated Press bureau chief at the Illinois Statehouse.

'Journalists are always fair game at the WHCA dinner, but Cecily comes with a special working knowledge of the crowd,' said Parsons.

'I look forward to seeing her at our head table, where I plan to seat her next to some other well-known Chicagoans,' he added.

This year's dinner will take place on April 25.

Strong joined the cast of SNL in 2012, where she co-anchored Weekend Update, SNL's faux news segment, up until the current season, when she was dropped as host.

But she said in September that she was not too upset by the change, posting her reaction via Instagram.

'I don't see this as me leaving update, just as me being on update in a looser, goofier way that is a lot more fun for me and in a way I think I'm better at,' Strong wrote in the accompanying caption on Friday.

'And now I get to do features with the very funny and wonderful Michael Che! No point in being angry or sad for me for something I'm genuinely happy about!' she continued.

'Unless you are just a person who enjoys being angry or sad. Then I guess play on, playa. Also, I danced too hard last night so now I am wearing a hot pad on my neck. Be angry and sad for me about my dumbass neck,' she concluded.

She is also known for her recurring characters including 'The Girl You Wish You Hadn't Started a Conversation with at a Party' and a former porn star.

She can be seen next year on the big screen in the comedy The Bronze starring Melissa Rauch of The Big Bang Theory.

Demotion? Strong was recently dropped from her hosting duties on Weekend Update, SNL's faux news segment.
