'The girls had to google her': Alex Perry says Australia's Next Top Model hopefuls didn't know who Linda Evangelista was before she appeared as a guest judge

She's one of the original 'Supers' who famously said 'I won't get out of bed for less than $10,000'.

But despite Linda Evangelista's iconic status this season's Australia's Next Top Model hopefuls had to google the Canadian supermodel, 49, when she appeared as a guest judge on the show.

Speaking on Kyle and Jackie O's Kiis FM breakfast show on Wednesday morning, the show's veteran judge Alex Perry says he had to educated the girls that they were in the presence of greatness when the catwalk chameleon arrived Down Under.

'I think the girls had to google her though, we remember her but 16-year-olds don't,' said the Australian couturier.

While the aspiring models might not have been versed in the nuances of sartorial history, Alex was suitably awed by the fashion royalty.

'When I was talking to her I said how many covers have you had, like I said "what 800" and she says, "it's probably more than that"

'She didn't know, lost count, but some days she used to shoot with Gilles Bensimon, like a really famous photographer, and they'd shoot 30 covers in a day so we had to tell the girls that, "in your wildest dreams you will have this career".'

Linda was credited with being one of the original supermodels alongside Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss, Cindy Crawford, Christy Turlington, Stephanie Seymour and Claudia Schiffer in her heyday.

Carving her spot in fashion history in the nineties the Canadian-born beauty has shot more than 30 Vogue covers, after being spotted in a talent contest age 18 by Elite New York agency.

Her infamous bob haircut, which she described as a 'bowlcut with sideburns', coupled with her insatiable ability to metamorphose in front of the camera, propelled her to stardom.

Karl Lagerfeld, the Chanel designer, famously said of her: 'You can play her like you can play no other instrument.'
