BAZ BAMIGBOYE: Emma and rugby star boyfriend break up: Actress split with Oxford student a month ago but they remain friends

Emma Watson and boyfriend Matthew Janney, a top rugby player for Oxford University, have gone their separate ways.

The 24-year-old actress and 22-year-old student, who is reading Russian at Oriel College, uncoupled a month ago but remain friends.

The split, brought about by Ms Watson’s unrelenting work schedule, was described as ‘amicable’ by a spokesman for the actress. Contrary to reports, the pair had not moved in together.

Their relationship started a year ago but they were often apart, because of her professional commitments and his studies.

Watson appeared in eight Harry Potter movies, but since the 2011 release of the final instalment, Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 2, she has embarked on an increasingly smart post-Potter screen career.

She has worked on cult independent movie The Perks Of Being A Wallflower, delivered a cool cameo in This Is The End, followed by The Bling Ring with director Sofia Coppola.

She later worked with director Alejandro Amenabar and actor Ethan Hawke on the thriller Regression. It’s one of two films being released next year that will require her to travel extensively on promotion work.

Watson’s currently shooting political drama Colonia Dignidad in Buenos Aires, opposite Daniel Bruhl and Julian Ovenden. The cast and crew will soon break for Christmas and resume shooting after the holidays.

Emma has other projects in the pipeline, including the big-screen adaptation of Erika Johansen’s best-selling young adult novel The Queen Of The Tearling, which will reunite her with award-winning Potter (and Paddington) producer David Heyman.

Yesterday, Janney was on the pitch at Twickenham for the Dark Blues’ 133rd Varsity Match against Cambridge and had much to smile about — Oxford thrashed Cambridge 43-6 in the fixture’s biggest-ever win.
