They broke up in September and soon after she vowed to return the champagne-coloured BMW that he gifted her the Christmas before.

And Jordin Sparks stuck to her word when she recently attempted to take the vehicle back to the dealership after alleging ex-boyfriend Jason Derulo didn't want it.

But as the 25-year-old singer told Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club on Thursday, she got a nasty surprise when she found out the car was actually leased and not purchased - which the Ridin' Solo star has strongly denied.

The No Air songstress told the radio hosts: 'Keeping it would be like dirty money'

Jordin explained of the car: 'If he wanted it, he could have it. I dropped it off at the BMW dealership and said, "You can deal with it."'

She then explained her surprise when she found out the car was not actually purchased and it wasn't long before Jason, 25, refuted the claims, taking to his Instagram to share a photo of the bill of sale to prove he bought the car outright.

Jordin also opened up about the former couple's communications since their split saying 'I haven't spoken to him since everything went down,'

'[After we last talked] he helped me with my bag to the car, he kissed me, he told me he loved me...then didn't call! I'm like, "We need to talk about this and move past it."

But despite the drama Jordin still thinks fondly of her former beau.

'He's a great guy. Like, I don't wish him any harm. He did some stupid s**t, but I can't hold that against him.'

Jordin says her current dating life is 'weird,' but she’s staying 'open-minded.'

'[Our] relationship did teach me what I like and what I'm willing to do and what I'm not willing to do,'

Meanwhile, Jordin splurged on a brand new Jeep Rubicon for her 25th birthday last month.

The singer couldn't wait to show off her purchase on Instagram, a super luxury SUV that sells for around $70,000 and was adorned with a festive red bow atop the hood

'Interior just got finished! (I bought it on my bday last week!) I've wanted a Jeep ever since my Daddy had one when I was little. Happy Birthday to meee!' Jordin described the cheerful photo.

Last holiday season, Jordin captioned a snap of the BMW gifted to her by Jason: 'I still can't believe it! He surprised me on Christmas but I wanted to make sure I wasn't dreaming before I posted it! ha! Thank you so much @jasonderulo! I love you baby! Omg omg omg.'
