Tennis might be her life, but Maria Sharapova ensures she still makes time for boyfriend, Grigor Dimitrov.

The 27-year-old told Daily Mail Australia on Sunday at the IMG Tennis Player's Party at Club 23, Crown Melbourne that despite not having much time together during tournaments, they try and see each other in the evening time.

'We really don't have that much time during the tournament because our schedules are quite different and sometimes we end up playing the matches on different days,' the world's number two tennis player said of her 23-year-old Bulgarian beau.

'But it's always nice to catch up at the end of a day, that's usually when we have our time,' she explained.

The Russian sportswoman, who is in town for the Australian Open, made sure all eyes were on her at the VIP event, in a two-tone frock with a layered skirt by UK designer, Antonio Berardi. She revealed that she liked wearing his designs and had worn them in the past.

The professional athlete left her blonde tresses down in waves for the occasion and wore bronzed tones when it came to her makeup and bright red lips to contrast her dress.

Kicking off her trainers, she opted for black stilettos with a clear side that showed off a tiny white plaster on her inner right foot.

Maria also spoke of her love for the capital of Victoria and revealed what she likes to do when back in the city.

'I love Melbourne,' she gushed.

'This is my 12th year here, always in the summer time, always a really nice atmosphere.

'I love getting around a little bit and enjoying the city.'

Known for being a bit of a foodie, Maria was asked if she had visited any new restaurants but the Russian said she had stuck to what she knew so far.

'I've been to some ones that I have visited before,' she explained.

However, that could be about to change as she revealed that along with going for a stroll in Melbourne's Botanical Gardens, she loves finding new, Spanish cuisine in the city.

'I love to find a new tapas place every time I come to Melbourne. I love tapas!'
