It was a celebration for close family members and friends to toast the 'special' engagement of Miranda Kerr's brother Matthew to his boyfriend James Wright.

But as everyone gathered in the shade of swaying palm trees at Sydney's Blackburn Park to hear Miranda's parents express their love for their only son, the model was notably absent from the party.

The 31-year former Victoria Secret Angel was absent as glasses were raised to her brother and his beau, who is seven years his senior.

Their mother Therese, 48, took to Instagram on Sunday to upload snaps of the sun-drenched event a day earlier which saw her espouse her love for the pair.

She captioned one image: 'Gorgeous times with loved ones,' while describing another, which captured the festive mood,'the most precious day for us and our family.'

She went on: 'Matty and Jimmy had their engagement party at Blackburn Park in Sydney and it was the most magical of days.

'The beautiful energy that filled the park was testimony to the love that is so apparent for Jimmy and Matty - thank you to all who attended and made this day so very special xxx'.

Precisely where daughter Miranda was is unclear, but her mother sent a touching note to her daughter the day she uploaded snaps of her son's celebration.

The message, which tagged Miranda, said: 'No matter how old my daughter gets, she'll always be my baby girl.'

Meanwhile, her estranged husband, actor Orlando Bloom, has been spotted in Miami with their son Flynn, three.

In October, the supermodel's only sibling announced he will tie the knot with his boyfriend in a surprise statement uploaded to his Facebook page.

Matthew, who works for his supermodel sister's Kora Organics company, publicly declared his love for his boyfriend by sharing a sweet snap of them with his 4,900 Instagram followers.

An ABC docudrama last February about the Kerr family revealed the Gunnedah boy felt 'lost' and in his sister's shadow because of her worldwide fame.

Earlier in the year Matthew, or Matty as he's affectionately known by his family, posed in another shot with his seemingly new boyfriend but wasn't ready to declare they were an item, referring to him as just a 'friend'.

'We're the two best friends that anyone could ever have,' he coyly penned in what appeared to be the early stages of their romance.

He later uploaded a grainy black and white shot under the caption 'Smitten'.

'You certainly are,' his mother Therese commented beneath the Instagram shot.

She is fully accepting of Matthew's relationship and Miranda herself came out in support of him in November 2011.

In a post on her Kora Organics blog, since deleted, she shared a video promoting marriage equality, according to JustJared.com.

'I just wanted to share this video with you. Having a gay brother myself, it’s something that is very close to my heart and which I totally support in every way. It’s time for Marriage Equality,' she wrote.

Matthew also did his bit for marriage equality by being snapped wearing a ring on his left hand in support of the cause.

'I wear my support for Australian Marriage Equality with my #marriageequalityring,' he wrote.

The Kerr clan is said to be stronger than ever after a long-standing feud was resolved when Miranda visited Australia with her son for three weeks in May.

A disagreement erupted when Matthew, his mother Therese, father John and grandmother Anna made an extraordinary public plea on national television, begging Miranda to come home, revealing they had not seen Flynn in 'over a year'.

Therese also stepped down as general manager and chief executive officer of Miranda's skincare line last February and has since started her own rival line.

Speaking on the ABC docudrama titled Family Confidential, Matthew told of his disappointment at not seeing his glamorous sister.

'I'd like to spend more one-on-one time instead of with an entourage of people who we don't really know. I love her to death, I just want to see her more.'
