Privacy guides

The Privacy guides page holds guides on the application of the Privacy Act 1988 (Privacy Act) for individuals, businesses and government agencies.

The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) issues guidelines to assist agencies and organisations to comply with the Privacy Act. Some guidelines are binding legislative instruments, which agencies and organisations must comply with. These can be found on the Legally binding guidelines and rules page. The OAIC also issues non-binding privacy guidelines, which can be found on the Advisory guidelines page.
