Mother-to-be Jill Duggar and husband Derick prepare for parenthood in the new season of 19 Kids and Counting by hosting a sleepover for her little sisters

  • Jill is now seven months pregnant
  • The ninth season of 19 Kids and Counting premieres February 17
  • The couple married in June and learned that they were expecting one month later

Expectant parents Jill Duggar and Derick Dillard’s preparations for the arrival of their baby take center stage in the ninth season premiere of hit reality series 19 Kids and Counting – as the married couple host a fun-filled sleepover for the mother-to-be’s four youngest sisters.

As the upcoming episode begins, the pair - who married in June and are expecting their first child in March - don't yet know that Jill, 23, is pregnant, but admit that Derick, 25, needs to get used to being around small children, since they haven't been using birth control and could become parents at any time.

'Derick and I are already trying to plan,' Jill explains at the start of the show. 'Because we're not preventing children, we know that we could have a baby at any time and so I think things like this will help Derick prepare for fatherhood someday. And he doesn't have any sisters, so having all of my little sisters over will be good.'

Her agenda for the evening includes letting the girls play dress-up in tiaras, eating lots of chocolate fondue, painting their nails, and then having Bible time before sending them off to bed.

Josie, five; Jordyn, six; Jennifer, seven; and Johannah, nine, all seem to thoroughly enjoy the fondue, despite the fact that none really knows what the chocolate-based dish is.

'The girls haven't really had a good fondue party. This is their first time to really enjoy it. And some of them did and it got pretty messy,' Jill says.

Next, Derick, who has donned a tall hat and long gray beard for the occasion, is seen patiently painting pink polish on Josie's finger nails.

'It was a lot of fun,' he says. 'I didn't know how many things were involved with having little girls, like painting finger nails.'

He adds: 'I definitely have a new appreciation for my father-in-law, Jim Bob, having nine daughters, because I know what he's gone through in the past, and hopefully I can live up to that same standard.'

Jill seems happy with Derick's behavior throughout the evening, observing: 'Derick is doing great. He's really good with kids and he's just joining right in.'

Later in the episode, the couple learn that they are expecting their first child after only 30 days of marriage, and excitedly announce the news to the entire Duggar clan during their nightly Bible study.

The 19 Kids and Counting stars are expecting their baby boy on March 24.

After the couple learned their child's gender from an ultrasound in October, Derick told People: 'I was really excited. As a new dad, to have a firstborn son to be our first child and be the leader of his siblings, it is very special.'

Jill added: 'I thought all along we were having a girl. Everyone made their guesses.'

The happy couple publicly announced that another Duggar -  the fourth grandchild for Jim Bob and Michelle - was on the way in August, just eight weeks after they tied the knot on June 21.

Jill and Derick married - and shared their first kiss - in front of more than 1,000 family members and friends at the Cross Church in Springdale, Arkansas, less than three months after Derick proposed to Jill.

Jill told Page Six that the deeply religious couple purposely kept their engagement short so as not to tempt themselves into being unchaste before the wedding.

'You may not wanna push the wedding date out too far, as those natural God-given desires with too much time between engagement and marriage can make it harder to remain pure,' she said.

The ninth season premiere of 19 Kids and Counting airs February 17 at 9pm on TLC.
