Professor Stephen Hawking takes to the stage at the BAFTAs alongside The Theory Of Everything star Felicity Jones to present Visual Effects award
It was the night Eddie Redmayne was named Best Actor for his portrayal of him on the big screen.
But Professor Stephen Hawking got his own moment in the spotlight when he took to the stage to present the awards for Best Special Visual Effects.
He was joined by actress Felicity Jones - who plays his first wife Jane Wilde in The Theory Of Everything - to dish out the prize.

The nominees included Guardians of The Galaxy, The Battle of the Five Armies, Interstellar, The Hobbits: The Battle Of The Five Armies and X-Men: Days of Future Past.
Interstellar came out on top, with the team behind it - Paul Franklin, Scott Fisher and Andrew Lockley - taking to the stage to collect the BAFTA.
Professor Stephen Hawking made an appearance at the EE British Film Academy Film Awards on Sunday evening.
His arrival at the ceremony came shortly before Eddie Redmayne - who won in the Leading Actor category for portraying the famous physicist in The Theory Of Everything - also ventured down the red carpet.
The scientist was joined at London's Royal Opera House by his family and ex-wife Jane Wilde.

It was confirmed earlier this week that the British scientist would be making an appearance at the prestigious awards ceremony.
Eddie, who has won much praise for his on-screen characterisation of Hawking in the biographical movie, later followed alongside his wife Hannah Bagshawe.
And the good-natured actor couldn't help but notice that he and his on-screen inspiration were dressed in similar outfits for the evening.
He quipped: 'I noticed that Stephen's here and we are both wearing velvet; we didn't plan this!'
Speaking ahead of the big night, the 33-year-old added: 'I try not to think about [winning] too much.'
'The film was such a high stakes game, we care so much about what the Hawkings thought, so frankly everything has been a gift.'
He went on: 'I've come to the BAFTAs a couple of times and it is a real special evening, and we actually shot some scenes at The Royal Opera House, so it feels like we've come full circle being here tonight.'
And he was victorious, fending off stiff competition from Michael Keaton, Benedict Cumberbatch, Ralph Fiennes and Jake Gyllenhaal to win the Leading Actor gong.
Inspiration: Hawking is the subject of the acclaimed biographical movie The Theory Of Everything
Proud moment: The physicist was joined on the red carpet by his daughter Lucy Hawkin
The film, which has already seen it's fair share of awards-season success, is based on Stephen's first wife Jane Wilde's book Travelling to Infinity: My Life With Stephen.
Largely centred on the former couple's relationship, it covers the period from Hawking's days as a PhD student at Cambridge until 1989 when he was named a Companion of Honour by the Queen.
Eddie stood alongside the lauded scientist at the film's London premiere back in early December, along with his co-star Felicity Jones.
She too is nominated for Leading Actress for her part in the film, Jane Wilde Hawking.
The couple became engaged in October 1964 and were married the following July, with Hawking later saying that the engagement had given him 'something to live for'.

Their eldest child, Robert, was born in 1967, followed by Lucy in 1970 and Timothy in 1979.
As Hawking's condition declined, he began to require crutches to walk and slowly lost the ability to write. He reluctantly started using a wheelchair in the late 1960s and by the late 1970s his speech could only be understood by family members and close friends.
During a 1985 visit to the European Organisation for Nuclear Research on the border of France and Switzerland, Hawking contracted pneumonia and was so close to death that Wilde was asked if his life support should be turned off.
She refused and Hawking underwent a tracheotomy which removed what was left of his ability to speak, and left him needing round-the-clock care. One of his nurses was Elaine Mason, played in the film by Maxine Peake, who would go on to become his second wife.
Hawking started using a computer programme called the 'Equalizer', which allows phrases, words or letters to be selected from a collection of around 3,000 - a method he still uses to speak today.
The programme used an American accent, and despite the others now available Hawking has said he wants to stick with it as it has become part of his identity.
'We're both wearing velvet!' Eddie - who took on the role of Stephen Hawking in The Theory Of Everything - joked that he and the scientist didn't match their outfits on purpose for the BAFTAs
Glamorous arrival: Leading Actor nominee Eddie Redmayne walked the red carpet with his beautiful wife Hannah Bagshawe
Meanwhile, his marriage to Wilde was under increasing strain and in 1990 Hawking told her he was leaving her for Mrs Mason. They divorced in 1995 and he married the nurse that September.
Hawking and Mrs Mason divorced in 2006, after which Hawking's relationship with Ms Wilde, his children and grandchildren improved - she even attended the premiere for The Theory Of Everything at the end of 2014.
Hawking, whose most famous work A Brief History of Time helped change the face of cosmology, previously revealed that he was so impressed by Eddie's performance, he kept mistaking the actor for himself.
