York College is a private four-year college affiliated with the Churches of Christ located in York, Nebraska, United States (50 miles west of Lincoln). The college was founded in 1890.

History[edit]

York College was founded in 1890 by the United Brethren Church. In 1946 the merger of the United Brethren Church and the Evangelical Church (see Evangelical Association) transferred control of the school to the Evangelical United Brethren Church. In 1956 the church transferred control to members of the Churches of Christ. The college has more than 7,500 alumni.[1] In the fall semester of 2013, the college had an enrollment of 459 undergraduates.[2]

Campus[edit]

The college's campus is situated on fifty acres of land and includes seventeen buildings.[3]

Accreditation[edit]

York is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. The college completed its most recent 10-year review and reaffirmation visit on February 17–19, 2014.

Academics[edit]

The college provides both residential, traditional undergraduate education and online, non-traditional programs. Degrees offered include the Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Business Administration and Master of Education.

Students and faculty[edit]

York's student-to-faculty ratio is 12:1. Student enrollment is 459 for the fall 2013 semester with a typical class size of 22. The student population consists of men and women from 30 states and 15 countries.[5]

Extracurricular[edit]

Extracurricular organizations include 12 athletic teams, Christian outreach and service groups, performance ensembles, social clubs, literary publications, honor societies and a wide range of intramural sports.

Athletics[edit]

York College teams, nicknamed athletically as the Panthers, are part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Division II level, primarily competing in the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference (MCAC). Men's sports include baseball, basketball, cross country, soccer, track & field and wrestling; while women's sports include basketball, cross country, soccer, track & field and volleyball. York College also competes as a member of the National Christian College Athletic Association.
