Kim Kardashian's stylists reveal her nerves ahead of that dramatic haircut - and how the 'edgy' new look was inspired by Kate Moss

Kim Kardashian sent her social media feeds into near-meltdown on Friday when she shared a photo of a dramatically shorter new haircut.

Now the hair stylist behind that chop, Gregory Russell, has spoken about how the star's new look came to be.

He told Fashionista.com: 'Kim came to me looking for a shorter look and after several different length reference photos, we decided on a blunt, textured shoulder length bob with a heavy side bang.'

Kim also had her regular hair stylist, Michael Silva, on hand during the session who revealed that she was 'very nervous' beforehand - but had been eager to make a statement at the Grammys.

'She just wanted a change, she wanted a new look,' Mr Silva said. 'The Grammys is a big event and she was excited and inspired to come out with something new. Just a change, something fresh.'

He added that inspiration for the haircut came from Kate Moss - he brought a selection of images of the supermodel to the session - and that 'edgy' was the order of the day.

Strike gold in a Jean Paul Gaultier gown like Kim

If there's one thing Kim Kardashian loves, it's a cleavage baring outfit. For the Grammys she donned a metallic Jean Paul Gaultier Haute Couture number straight from his catwalk show in Paris. With its plunging neckline and mile-high slit, this look left little to the imagination.

We're crazy for the belted waist and embellished shoulders, sleeves, and pockets. With her strappy sandals and sexy tousled hair, the reality star looks like a golden goddess.

Metallics are consistently a go-to item when it comes to red carpet dressing. Katy Perry and Rita Ora both dressed in shiny renditions for the award ceremony too. It's a look with which you just can't go wrong!

We've put together a selection of resplendent items below from Halston Heritage, Mac, and DVF to recreate Kim's look in a major way. Our favorite is the Badgley Mischka number by far!

Luckily for Kim, her nerves were unfounded and the risk paid off.

'She loves it,' Mr Silva said. 'I think she feels really liberated. There's something to be said about a woman who can cut her hair short. It just signifies an inner confidence. When a woman cuts her hair short sometimes she doesn't feel as glamorous, but to me it's just as glamorous. It's more confident. [Kim]'s so confident.'

And Kim's not the only one who loves her new look. While the Glam Squad weren't witness to Kanye West's reaction to his wife's haircut, Mr Silva says it was a hit.

'I know he loves the shorter hair,' he revealed. 'He loves it!'
