He is known as one of American's rock's coolest stars.

But, earlier this week, Red Hot Chili Peppers frontman Anthony Kiedis proved that he also has pretty impressive credentials as a father.

The singer, 52, was spotted hanging out with his son, Everly Bear, at their local farmers market in Malibu, California, on Monday, where they looked seriously cool.

The Californication singer cut a youthful figure in a white graphic tee, royal blue cut-off shorts and what looked to be house slippers.

Meanwhile, Everly wore a green t-shirt, grey leggings and a grey slip on sneakers.

Together, the clearly enjoyed some essential father/son time.

At one point the pair looked adorable as they held hands in the summer sun, following a spot of relaxed shopping.

Clearly following in his fathers' footsteps, the boy sported a long ponytail and in-built sense of cool.

But it's not all quality family time for Grammy Award-winning singer, Anthony.

Meanwhile, Anthony and his band are working on their first album since the release of their 2011 offering, I'm With You.

In a recent Rolling Stone Q&A with fans over Twitter, drummer Chad Smith revealed their new creative process has been paying off.

'We're now going to try another method that will be really challenging for us and will bring new, exciting results for the band. We've written and recorded in a way that we've never done before, so the record is going great.

'We all have high hopes that it's going to take off and we're going to do something very different and unique for the Red Hot Chili Peppers.'
