Kanye West performs stripped-down and emotional ballad Only One dedicated to his daughter North at the Grammy Awards

He has racked up an impressive 57 Grammy nominations over his career.

But the biggest prize to Kanye West seems to be his 20-month-old daughter North.

The 37-year-old rapper took to the stage at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards to perform his emotional ballad Only One dedicated to his adorable child on Sunday evening.

The husband of Kim Kardashian was not afraid to show his vulnerable side as he sung the sentimental song in a rather stripped-down production during the gala held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

As the All Of The Lights hitmaker is known for his intricate performances, Kanye opted for a different approach while crooning as he only needed an underneath spotlight while singing his latest single.

One consistent element to this concert in comparison to his others in the past was his use of autotune, which is a prominent aspect of the track which is a collaboration between the rapper and legendary artist Paul McCartney.

The production of the performance was not the only thing muted, as the usually fashionable rapper went casual in a burgundy velour hoodie with matching sweatpants.

He completed the look with a black top and his soon-to-be released grey Yeezy Boost sneakers that he designed in collaboration with Adidas.

This was the first time Kanye has hit the stage in six years  as he has not been an active presence at almost any awards show since 2009 - the same year he interrupted Taylor Swift's acceptance speech at the VMAs.

But this year he is set to perform not once but twice - as he also took the stage for a rendition of his collaboration FourFiveSeconds with Sir Paul McCartney and Rihanna.

The performance began as the three hitmakers performed to a plain white background while all dressed in entirely black.

Rihanna and Kanye both would switch off doing verses as the legendary musician from The Beatles strummed along on guitar and aided with background vocals.

Halfway into the performance, the white screen lifts to reveal a grey draped background as they continued performing the new single off Rihanna's upcoming album.

Kanye's wife Kim Kardashian broke the news of the group performance with a tweet on Monday night with a snap of Kanye's awards case packed full of Grammys.

She captioned the shot: '#YEEZYSEASON #GRAMMYS #GETREADY'. Due to Kanye's ban on the ceremony this is the first time Kim has attended the show with her husband.

The rapper has been nominated every year at the Grammys since his absence, and even won in 2010, 2012 and 2013.

Kanye has been nominated a total of 57 times at the Grammys and has won 21 times over the years.

He was nominated two times this year, but ultimately lost out in the best rap song and best rap/ sung collaboration categories.

Over the years, Kanye has won himself a not-too-shabby 124 music awards over all and, thanks to his collection of Grammys, he is also one of the most-awarded Grammy winners of all time.

His first Grammys came in 2005, winning Best Rap Album for his debut effort The College Dropout and Best Rap Song for his haunting track Jesus Walks.

Since his foray into the music world, he has amassed an impressive collection, which also includes three BRITs, two American Music Awards and three MTV Video Music Awards.

Kanye's appearance at the Grammy's is a surprising one, considering comments he made in 2013 during a performance in London.

'I hate business people,' Kanye began his rant.

'People get on the phone with me and tell me: "What kind of business can you do, though? What type of business are you doing? What's the numbers? How much did you sell? What's the radio spins? How much shampoo can you sell with your face on it and s***?"

'Remind me again why we in this s***. Can you remind me again why we in this s***? Since when [is] making music about getting rich?' he asked mid-tirade.

'Since when [is] making art about getting rich?... Remind me again why we in this s***. Remind me again why the Grammys couldn't suck my d***,' he concluded.
