'It's awkward being in line for the restroom!' Lupita Nyong'o shares the downside of her sudden rise to fame as she covers Lucky

Lupita Nyong'o rose to fame after her Oscar-winning performance in 2013's 12 Year's a Slave.

And in the March issue of Lucky the 31-year-old admitted that while the perks are nice, the fame isn't always easy.

She specifically pointed out the example of trying to duck into a Starbucks to use a bathroom, but instantly being recognized, adding: 'It's awkward.'

Inspiring eye shadow palettes for Lancome and attending The Oscars and the Golden Globes in stunning gowns are some of the perks of Lupita's new-found fame.

However, the beauty also shared the negative side of celebrity, speaking in the March issue of Lucky, which hits newsstands February 17.

'The not-so-fun part of all this is that when I don't feel like being famous, I still am,' the actress admitted.

'When you're in the middle of Manhattan and you have to pop into Starbucks to use the restroom and everyone recognizes you when you're waiting in line, it's awkward.'

'Like mother, like daughter' Lupita shared this photo of her in 2015 (R) and her mother in 1983 (L) in split screen, lovingly hashtagging it: '#OhToBeHalfTheWomanMyMumIs!'

The transition must have been especially shocking for Lupita, who had a normal childhood, with strict rules, such as her mom's ban on makeup.

'My mother has never ever worn a drop of makeup in her life, not even at a wedding,' the Non-Stop actress said.

'Honestly, my mother's outlook was hard for me to take when I was a teenager and wanted to experiment.'

But the stunning star shared that she did appreciate her mother's rules, as they helped her to value her natural beauty.

'But in the end I appreciated it, because today I can look in a mirror with no makeup on and love myself,' she said.

She recently shared an Instagram photo, which compared photos of her and her mother in split screen, and she lovingly hashtagged the post: '#OhToBeHalfTheWomanMyMumIs!'

Lupita is also true to herself when it comes to her internet presence, cautious to only use her social media accounts to put good out into the world.

'I'm governed by things that made me smile, laugh and think,' she said. 'And if they do that to me, then I ask myself, would anybody else care to see this? If I can think of one person, I post it.'

Most recently Lupita has been working on Disney's reboot of The Jungle Book, voicing the character Raksha, and she is also set to star in the Star Wars reboot, Episode VII - The Force Awakens.
