'It's always been a dream of mine,' Wozniacki told USA Today's For The Win.

'I went to the offices of Sports Illustrated quite a few months ago and threw myself out there. "If you need a model or want one, I'm here." It must have made a pretty good impression.'

The pictures were taken on Florida's Gulf Coast by celebrated photographer Walter Iooss Jr. and was a fast experience.

'I changed into a new swimsuit really quickly and did 12 different suits. I loved every minute of it,' Wozniacki said.

'I think because I'm in it this year, Denmark is going crazy about it this year and that's fun to see.'

She was clearly happy with the end result as she tweeted a few pictures with the message: 'Thank you @SI_Swimsuit !! Loving the pictures!!'

Make like Caroline in a strappy bikini by Mikoh

Caroline Wozniacki is redefining the term tennis whites!

The Danish tennis ace turned into a supermodel for the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue and she looks white hot in a variety of tiny two-pieces. But this strappy bikini has got to be our favorite!

It's by Mikoh, a too cool for school Californian label whose distinctive pieces have been worn by Beyoncé, Cameron Diaz, Rihanna and the Kardashians. Although you can't see it here, the halterneck top is just as detailed on the back as it is in front, and although it might give you some rather interesting tan lines, we have to say we love the look.

The top and bottoms are sold separately and come in a variety of cuts and colors, so you can mix and match as much as you'd like. Caroline's white number is now sold out, but click (right) to buy the black version at Net-a-Porter.

But if you want to wow them in white (it is the ideal shade for showing off a holiday glow!) check out our edit below for some really similar alternatives. We want Issa de' Mars' version and Asos' lattice strap style. So we'll just have to get both...

In a behind-the-scenes video, Caroline, who was engaged to golfer Rory McIlroy, says the shoot came at just the right time.

'It was the perfect time for me,' said Wozniacki.

'I was training for the marathon, I was playing tennis, I was playing tournaments. I felt like my body was in great shape. I was super excited.'

Caroline's currently preparing to win back her 2011 title at the Dubai Duty Free Championships this month.

Wozniacki earned much success towards the latter half of 2014, and after her performance at the Australian Open she returned to the World Top 5.

She also completed the New York Marathon last year in 3 hours 26 minutes, meaning she automatically qualified for the Boston Marathon.
