Girls star Jemima Kirke performs a DIY tattoo in home kitchen (and she's inked pal Lena Dunham too)

Jemima Kirke is known for her role on popular HBO series Girls.

However, the mother of two is also a painter and tattoo artist - she's even tattooed longtime friend and co-star Lena Dunham.

But it was still a bit surprising to see the 29-year-old doing a DIY tattoo with a pen in a Yahoo video for Jacob Wallach's wacky web series.

Jacob's series is called 'How to Do the Things You Shouldn't Do,' explaining that as a child he always rebelled, but often the things you're not supposed to do, if done without instruction, could be dangerous or even deadly.

So, despite the risks associated with an at-home tattoo, the host decided to tackle that subject, ironically giving viewers the instructions for the 'thing they shouldn't do.'

On Tuesday's episode he set out to demonstrate how to do a tattoo at home, for which he enlisted the help of Jemima.

'Normally for a home tattoo you would use a sewing needle, but we have to be extra sanitary because of the network,' Jemima candidly explains.

The laid-back ink master seems like a clear inspiration for her Girls alter ego as she explains the process, what with Jessa being known for her chill, bohemian persona.

Jemima then shares what is needed for the risky process, which is: a pen, ointment, sewing or tattoo needle, tattoo or india ink, water, a glove, and a paper towel.

She teases the host for his fair skin, adding the process might be a bit more difficult 'if your skin is really pale and translucent.'

Jacob then jokingly makes the situation uncomfortable as he comments on how smooth Jemima's skin is.

Dear God: Jacob made a joke of a previous tattoo he had, which Jemima called 'a little girly' by adding 'G-D' so that it would read as: 'Dear God'

The actress then begins the process, poking holes along the design of the tattoo, going just deep enough to break the skin.

'What's the worst tattoo you've ever given?' Jacob asks, to which the HBO star quickly responds: 'This one.'

Jacob requested Jemima tattoo: 'G-D' underneath a previous tattoo he had of a deer, so that the finished design could be read as: 'Dear God.'

Previously Jemima tattooed Girls co-star and creator Lena, sharing the story in a 2012 Vanity Fair post.

'I have a handful of tattoos that I really want to put on people that I can’t find anyone to let me give them to,' she said. 'Lena let me do one of them, which is like a Yorkshire terrier on her ribcage.'

She was also recently seen posing in a photo shared on Liv Tyler's Instagram, as she was preparing to paint the pregnant star.
