What is Ohio Memory?

The mission of the Ohio Memory Project is to provide access to historical treasures of Ohio, bringing together primary sources from all parts of the state in an online scrapbook that:

  • celebrates state and local history
  • encourages cooperation between archives, historical societies, libraries, museums, and other cultural organizations
  • allows the global community to discover and explore Ohio’s rich past

How can my organization participate in the Ohio Memory Project?
All cultural heritage repositories that hold materials related to Ohio history and make them available to the public are invited to submit collections for inclusion in the Ohio Memory Project!  For more information on how to participate, please visit the Join Ohio Memory page or contact Jamie Glavic, Strategic Projects Coordinator.
What is OhioPix?

Managed by the Ohio History Connection, OhioPix is your one-stop shop for rights-managed historic images of Ohio. Over 60 institutions have contributed to the database, making it more convenient than ever to find and use vintage images for your projects!

What if I see an image on Ohio Memory or OhioPix and would like to request a copy?
For images found on Ohio Memory, please contact our Images staff at 614-297-2530 or images@ohiohistory.org. You may also use the OhioPix website to discover historic images for your projects and order them directly online!

How do I get permission to use an image from OHS in my publication, exhibit, or presentation?
Contact images@ohiohistory.org or visit the Rights and Reproductions page for more information.
What Digitization Services are offered?

Digitization services through the Ohio History Connection offer a variety of means to digitally reproduce historical items for institutions.

Digitization:

  • Transparent media, like slides, 35mm film, microfilm, 4x5 transparencies, etc.
  • Small flat media, like photographs, postcards, letters, etc.
  • Large flat media, like maps, posters, banners, etc.
  • Bound volumes, like books or other material with fragile bindings.
  • Three-dimensional historical objects

Media Conversion

  • Audiotape or LPs to audio files on DVD or other media
  • Film/video to video
  • Film/video to video files on DVD or other media

What is the National Digital Newspaper Program in Ohio?
The National Digital Newspaper Program in Ohio (NDNP-OH) is Ohio’s contribution to the Library of Congress’s Chronicling America website, a freely-available, online newspaper resource providing access to over 4.5 million keyword-searchable newspaper pages.

What digitization services are offered for Newspapers?

OHS Digitization Services offers both services and consultation relating to the digitization of newspapers. These include microfilm duplication, microfilm digitization, making digitized newspapers available online, and OHS’s involvement in the National Digital Newspaper Program.
