With the alien with the red eyes, it looks like he's got a severed hand around his throat. 

So this is my theory for the episode:

To explain how missy escaped and her influence over  clara:

may be missy used those UNIT black archive memory filters to filter her memories- which is why clara did not recognise missy in Dark Water and proves that missy did escape gallifrey in DOTD via the painting which was in the black archive!

The plot: I think that there is something big happening in the skies- not sure why missy is bothered bout it, but this is where the twist comes in: she is just trying to get the doctor's attention and act like she's helping and becomes super-evil in the Witches familiar. In the second part- she takes control of clara which is presumbably gonna start in the first part since she is teleporting clara away for her purposes. I liked the theory that this opener was going to be Doctor-Lite, peter has barely done any work in this episode

Series 8 had so much claustrophobia and abstract physcodrama in a room( albeit a beautifully lit room) that it's good to have an outdoors episode.

By the looks of it, that is definitely a vortex manipulator on Missy's wrist, so she does seem to take Clara backwards of forwards in time...

From the look of things, The Series 9 opener could well be Doctor-lite. 

The Witch's Familiar (with this intriguing Clara-Missy encounter) certainly screams out Doctor-lite. And, judging from the spoilers, it seems like the Doctor could be in danger (then again, when isn't he?). So, everybody else would need to work towards getting him out of danger. 

Plus we have Clare Higgins returning (possible return to Karn?). Could Missy's origins be explored as well?

So, judging from what we know so far, does this mean that Missy is ‘The Magician’, and Clara is ‘The Apprentice’?

Plus, the picture of Clara and the Doctor with the ‘alien’ in the spoiler picture, that reminds me a lot of Bellal the Exxilon. Does this also mean we might be returning to the planet Exxilon (featured in 1974’s classic serial ‘Death to The Daleks’) this season, taking in the fact that they are seemingly on a desert type (alien?) planet and that Exxilon was also a rocky, sandscaped world. Now that would be a nice call-back to the Pertwee era (one of my favourite classic episodes).

Also, Missy places a bracelet (a simple teleport device or Vortex Manipulator) on Clara's wrist and they both disappear. But wear to?

I really hope this means we might be seeing the Masters TARDIS return (presuming they’d teleport their where they can talk undisturbed by the ‘Men in Black’).

If (hopefully) so, I’d imagine it being similar to the Eighth Doctor’s Victorian themed Console Room, (since the Master herself seems to have adopted a love for Victorian style.

To see another one Time Machine asides from the Doctor's, now that really would be a treat. :)

@MatthewButcher those ailens in death to the daleks had some sort of link to the shadow proclamation- which could explain the casting of Kelly Hunter. The return of Karn- i cannot find an explanation, but the place looks a lot like it. I want there to be a missy tardis, but that would mean bbc would have to spend a lot of money, however you could re-use an old tardis which would probably not be as so exciting

@Planet of the Deaf Nice to read that the people living on Tenerife were so helpful and pleased for Doctor Who to film there. Great place, had fun going on holiday there a few years back.

Also, quite funny to read the mistranslation that Doctor Who is a series of worship in the United Kingdom. xD

Clara and Missy, alone together and apparently working together? Very, very intriguing...

Am I the only one who thinks that alien looks like an anorexic Ogron? The colour might be wrong, but I'm colourblind so I'm not sure.

Can anyone read what is written on the chair beside Jenna's in the background of the Gomez picture? I think it's Capaldi, given the stars, but can't quite see.

Given all that we've been told about the two-parter so far, here's my theory...

One day, the planes miraculously start freezing in the sky, so UNIT try to contact the Doctor through Clara, but not even she knows where he's gone. Missy shows up to capture Clara with her strange henchmen and (for some reason I cannot grasp) tells her she needs help getting the Doctor back to stop the planes freezing. They go to Spain for a holiday (haven't quite figured out why they are there yet) and then Missy uses a vortex manipulator on Clara to take her to the Shadow Proclamation (where Kelly Hunter comes in) and try to see if they can help find him. No idea apart from that. Plus somewhere in here a scene of one of the Master's forms with the Sisterhood of Karn being given a regeneration. 

So, the Doctor is supposedly absent for some part of the episode, and Missy claims that he is in danger; asking for Clara's help (before shoving a vortex manipulator on her and taking her somewhere). The scene with the two seems to be in contemporary Spain, whereas the footage of the landscape could be an alien planet.

Clara and Missy not only meeting, but possibly traveling through time together? Witch's familiar indeed!

Did Jenna cut her hair? Clara's hair looks noticeably shorter this year.

Hum, the Doctor seems to be absent from this episode if Clara and Missy are working together. Maybe to find him!

@LordWhovian Look again at the Vine clip DWTV posted and you will see a gray-haired man wearing a hoodie.

missy back at her best. I am getting the feeling that men in black are not working for missy, since they have their guns pointed around her, when she fired the weapon, may be they are pointing at clara but i don't know

I'm calling it - Danny Pink's story is not done yet. 

Come on, this is Moff's story. Did you seriously think he'd stay dead?? :P

I bet Missy will tell Clara that Danny can still be brought back (which explains their apparently "civil" meeting). But, in return, Clara will have to betray the Doctor (in other words, NOT save him from whatever danger he's in). 

Will that be the plot for The Witch's Familiar?

@divya12 I hope Danny's story is not over yet....and that he is resurrected and in his revival decides to travel the universe with The Doctor and Clara.

Nah if that was the case they wouldn't have done Danny's scene in last Christmas

@divya12 I'd be fine if there was more to his story somehow, because I was a big fan of Dannys character, but I really hope he stays dead. 

@divya12 Well, Clara Missy asks "why would she needs her help"? And Missy replied "Because the Doctor is in danger." I highly doubt that Missy needs to do some kind of promise: The Doctor in danger? There is no doubt that Clara will be ready to do anything. No need to put Danny in the middle. Moreover it would be very out of place compared to the tones that the episode promises, at least from what we've seen so far.

@divya12  Last Christmas seemed to make a point about closing Danny's story arc and it would be unwise to force him make him. I'd rather see Clara develop on her own without Pink getting in the way

@divya12 That'd be an interesting plot line. Clara was pretty desperate to get Danny back in Dark Water - to the point where she violated The Doctor's trust a lot. Plus, The Master knows Clara is the way she is - it was her plan after all. 

Can't believe she's back already, I fear it's being overdone again. Why does he have this fetish with killing characters off and then bringing them back to life ? It's like the boy who cried wolf

@Polyphase I get where you're coming from but I disagree.  There are several gaps in Missy's story, (when and why did the Master regenerate into Missy, what does she know about Gallifrey, why did she "choose" Clara and how long has she been watching/manipulating her, does Clara know, how did Missy escape and what has she been up to, etc.) that could be worth exploring at the start of S9.

@Polyphase Well actually Moffat really hasn't done that very often (if at all) in Series 8. I don't think Missy counts, because I strongly doubt that was actually a death. Plus, the Master always comes back

@Polyphase I love it that she's back on the first episode - it's being realistic. The Master wouldn't have died there, especially not when she was brilliant in her debut - she was always going to be back. The suspense before her return would have been false - this is just subverting the obvious and going for a cracking intro to Series 9.

@Polyphase  One of the main things about the Master is that he never dies, though.

Missy and Clara in the same place together? Got It.

Missy that seems to seek help from Clara, in order to help the Doctor? Got It.

The Doctor apparently in danger? Got It.

Some mysterious (and quite nice) bodyguards, fully armed? Got It.

Just a heads up folks, the videos do have dialogue that may be considered spoilerific to the plot of the episode, nothing major, but I'd watch them on mute if you don't want to know too much.

The picture with Missy and her arms out... Regenerating? Or yawning? Or telling Clara how big the fish she caught was?
