'Sustainability has got a bad reputation, especially in fashion. I think people assume the clothes will be dull, the fabrics uncomfortable and the design uninspiring,' Olivia said.

'It’s like people think sustainability is a penance. This couldn't be further from the truth, and the H&M Conscious Exclusive collection shows that sustainability is no compromise on style.'

The actress revealed she decided to get behind the campaign not just for its ethics, but because of its looks as well.

Soar like a bird in an H&M Conscious printed maxi dress

H&M has really elevated their look from the standard fast fashion designer knockoffs and basics items. They have their own studio design team led by Ann-Sofie Johansson and even showed their Fall collection at Paris Fashion Week.

H&M Conscious, the Swedish retailer's eco-friendly line, is also swiftly growing in popularity with big names like Natalie Portman and Miranda Kerr wearing their luxe pieces on the red carpet.

For their Spring ad campaign, they tapped Olivia Wilde to be the face of their latest range. Featuring tuxedo styles, a kimono frock, and this bird print maxi dress that the Lazarus Effect star wears, the collection is sure to be a hit once it hits stores in mid April.

'I hope the collection empowers women around the world who love fashion but want to consume it in a more sustainable way. It gives them the chance to look their best, and also act responsibly. I also hope the rest of the fashion industry is watching. I think this is how all fashion should be. Great style that's naturally more sustainable.'

The collection uses organic materials such as recycled wool, Tencel and recycled sequins.

Created by French stylist Ludivine Poiblanc, the ads feature Wilde wearing items including an organic silk tuxedo blazer and a sleeveless evening gown with a hand-drawn avian print.

In a behind-the-scenes video of the shoot Wilde reveals a hand-painted linen and silk skirt is her favourite of the collection: 'I just think its absolutely beautiful,' she gushes.

'H&M is doing a great thing by showing people that sustainability doesn't mean compromising fashion,' she adds.

The Tron Legacy star is well known for her environmental advocacy, humanitarian work and philanthropy. Olivia is the co-founder of Conscious Commerce, as site that ensures when you buy something the money actually goes to help the people who made it.

'It should be shocking when a product isn't somehow helping the people who made it,' she said of the concept, which encourages people to buy stuff they actually need, and not just donate out of a sense of charity or guilt.

On top of acting and all her charity work, Wilde also has he hands full with her son Otis, who turns one next month, and will also have one eye on a date for her wedding to fiance Jason Sudekis, whom she engaged in January 2013
