Hawk Sweepstakes!

Hawk, the latest in Steven Brust’s Vlad Taltos series, hits shelves from Tor Books on October 7th, and we want to send you a galley right now!

Years ago, Vlad Taltos came from the East, to make his way as a human amidst the tall, long-lived natives of the Dragaeran Empire. He joined the Jhereg, the Dragaeran House that handles the Empire's vices: gambling, rackets, organized crime. He became a professional assassin. He was good at it.

But that was then, before Vlad and the Jhereg became mortal enemies.

For years, Vlad has run from one end of the Empire to the other, avoiding the Jhereg assassins who pursue him. Now, finally, he's back in the imperial capital where his family and friends are. He means to stay there this time. Whatever happens. And whatever it takes.

 Check for the rules below!

THE RULES: The first six people to email their name and address to sweepstakes [at] tor DOT com will receive one ARC of the book listed above. Please make the subject of your email “Hawk.” Good luck! Do not comment in this post for the sweepstakes, and for safety reasons PLEASE DO NOT leave your address in the comments.

I recently discovered Steven Brust and now this wonderful sweepstakes pops up on my radar. Funny how life words sometimes.

Wow, is this series still going on? Brust could give George R. R. Martin a run for his money... How many more books in this series? I've given up around Teckla... worth continuing on?

I quite like the series. It moves around to different time periods and different books are presented in different ways. (Also you'd need three or four of them to add up to the word count of one Song of Ice and Fire book.)

"Years ago, Vlad Taltos came from the East, to make his way as a human amidst the tall, long-lived natives of the Dragaeran Empire."

This is driving me crazy. Wasn't Vlad born in Dragaera?

There are supposed to be 19 books total. Each book can be read independently though so it isn't like we are waiting six years to find out if a character is dead or alive.

You are right!

The first book by Brust I ever read was Taltos, many years ago in the late 80s. I immediately went out and bought everything else he'd written (and was not disappointed). However, one nagging little thing stood out in my memory - why, upon first meeting Sethra Lavode, did Loioish ask, "Have we ever run into her before?"

That line bounced around in my head for years, until I read Orca in the late 90s... and for the first and only time that I can recall, threw a book against the wall for sheer joy.

@Jason Ipswitch - you've gone and done it. I'm going to have to go back and re-read, though I don't think I ever got to Orca.
