The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) is seeking comment on a draft Guide to undertaking privacy impact assessments.

A privacy impact assessment (PIA) is a systematic assessment of a project that identifies the impact that the project might have on the privacy of individuals, and sets out recommendations for managing, minimising or eliminating that impact. PIAs are an important tool for assessing privacy risks and developing mitigation strategies.

The draft Guide provides an overview of a process for undertaking a PIA.

The closing date for comments is Friday 28 March 2014.
