He's so Hugh Hefner! Nick Jonas wears a robe to take a cell phone call on the New Orleans set of TV's Scream Queens

He obviously wasn't needed in front of the cameras.

Nick Jonas was spotted wearing just a bathrobe - something Playboy publisher Hugh Hefner is known for - as he strolled around the set of Scream Queens in New Orleans on Tuesday.

With time on his hands, the 22-year-old former member of the Jonas Brothers band was glued to his cell phone.

The hunky star, whose thick dark hair was perfectly coiffed, has a recurring role in Fox's new comedy horror series that started filming on Thursday.

The main cast includes the original Scream Queen herself, Jamie Lee Curtis, who made her name in horror flick Halloween, plus Emma Roberts, Glee's Lea Michele and Abigail Breslin among others. 

Singer-actress Ariana Grande also has a recurring role.

Created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan, the team behind Glee and American Horror Story, the upcoming series has been described as a mash-up between the two shows.

The first installment in the 15-episode anthology series revolves around a college campus which is rocked by a series of murders, according to Fox. It is expected to premiere in fall 2015.

The anthology set up means that, like American Horror Story, once the series ends any subsequent seasons will have completely new stories.

It's a busy time for Nick, who has ramped up his acting career since the Jonas Brothers disbanded in 2013. 

The Texan-born hunk in a mentor on NBC's The Voice and he will reprise his role as Nate Kulina in boxing saga Kingdom on DirecTV's Audience Network, returning with 20 episodes this fall.

The Jealous singer is also due to host Nickelodeon's 28th Annual Kids' Choice Awards, airing live from Los Angeles's Pauley Pavilion on March 28.
