FOI Disclosure Log

What is a freedom of information disclosure log?

All Australian Government agencies that are subject to the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (FOI Act) are required by section 11C to publish a freedom of information (FOI) disclosure log on their website. The FOI disclosure log lists information which has been released in response to an FOI access request. This requirement has applied since 1 May 2011.

The disclosure log requirement does not apply to:

  • personal information about any person if publication of that information would be 'unreasonable'
  • information about the business, commercial, financial or professional affairs of any person if publication of that information would be 'unreasonable'
  • other information, covered by a determination made by the Australian Information Commissioner, if publication of that information would be 'unreasonable'
  • any information if it is not reasonably practicable to publish the information because of the extent of modifications that would need to be made to delete the information listed in the above points.

Who regulates FOI disclosure logs?

The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) is also the agency with oversight responsibility for FOI disclosure logs for all Australian Government agencies that are subject to the FOI Act. To find out more about creating an FOI disclosure log see s 93A FOI Act guidelines Part 14 — Disclosure log.

Information to assist Australian Government agencies in developing their own FOI disclosure log is available in our Guidance for agency websites: 'Access to information' web page.

The information described in the disclosure log table below has been released by the OAIC under the FOI Act and is available for public access.

A link is provided if the information can be downloaded from this website or another website.

Information that is not available online may be obtained by emailing or writing to us. A charge may be imposed to reimburse the OAIC for the cost incurred in copying or reproducing the information or sending it to you. There will be no charge for the time spent by the OAIC in processing the FOI request that led to this information being made available. You will be notified if any charge is payable and required to pay the charge before the information is provided.

There may be documents in the disclosure log that are currently not available in HTML format. If you are unable to read the format provided please contact us for an alternative format. We will try to meet all reasonable requests for an alternative format of the document in a timely manner and at the lowest reasonable cost to you.

Information attached, or referred, to in the OAIC's disclosure log will generally be removed after 12 months, unless the information has enduring public value.

Please note:

  • Most FOI requests to the OAIC are made by individuals in relation to their complaint file. These releases do not meet the criteria for public release in this disclosure log.
  • A document published on the disclosure log may be an edited version of the document originally provided to an applicant because of an exception in s 11C(1) of the FOI Act.
  • The FOI Act also requires the OAIC to proactively publish a range of information under the Information Publication Scheme (IPS). If the document you are looking for is not in the disclosure log, it may be available on the IPS page.
