'We sincerely apologize': Us Weekly admits Kendall Jenner did NOT make a statement to the magazine about her father Bruce's 'transition' and retract it entirely

Us Weekly has apologized to Kendall Jenner and fully retracted an item posted on its website in which it claimed the teen had made a comment to the magazine about her father Bruce.

The article published Wednesday alleged the model and reality star had publicly commented for the first time about Bruce Jenner's transition from male to female, saying she would always love her dad 'whether he's a man or a woman.'

On Thursday, Us Weekly acknowledged that there was no proof an interview with Kendall had ever taken place and offered a full apology to the 19-year-old and her family.

'Editors of Us have concerns about the veracity of this interview and the circumstances under which it was obtained,' said the statement on UsWeekly.com on Thursday. 'We would like to retract the story entirely and have removed it from our website. We sincerely apologize to Ms. Jenner and her family.'

The published article ran with the headline 'Kendall Jenner Breaks Silence on Bruce Jenner's Transition: 'I Will Always Love My Dad.''

However, the magazine decided to investigate the circumstances surrounding the alleged interview with Kendall after she publicly denounced Us Weekly for 'making up quotes.'

'I NEVER said those things. I never spoke to them,' she posted on Twitter.

Earlier on Wednesday, the eldest of Bruce's two daughters with ex-wife Kris had tweeted: 'How is it legal for someone to "quote" someone and publish it if in fact you never said what was quoted.'

In their retraction, Us Weekly said it had contacted the independent freelance journalist that had supplied the quotes to them.

The freelance reporter had claimed that Kendall made the comments during an interview at the Saturday March 14 taping of Comedy Central's roast of Justin Bieber in Los Angeles.

Even though the reporter 'stood by the interview, and continues to maintain that the quotes are accurate,' Us Weekly editors said there is no way to confirm the reporter's account of what had occurred and what, if anything, had been said.

To date, no-one from the Jenner or Kardashian families have made any public comments about persistent rumors that Bruce Jenner is undergoing gender reassignment.

Any such comments would be taken as confirmation that the former Olympian is indeed in the process of starting to live as a woman.

Bruce himself has remained silent on the issue.

A People cover story this week claimed a family insider had revealed that Bruce has known for more than five decades that he really should be a woman and had shared that knowledge with his first two ex-wives when the marriages ended.

The 65-year-old has a total of six children from three marriages - daughters Kendall and Kylie, 17, with Kris; sons Brandon, 33 and Brody, 31, with ex-wife Linda Thompson; and daughter Cassandra, 34, and son Burt, 36, with ex-wife Chrystie Crownover.

He also has four stepchildren from his former marriage to Kris: Kourtney, 35, Kim, 34, Khloe, 30, and Rob, 27.

People claimed on Wednesday that the athlete is no longer on speaking terms with ex-wife Kris, and that his stepdaughters in particular struggled to come to terms with his decision to live life as a female.

A source told the publication that Kim, Kourtney and Khloe 'were just hysterical when it all really came out.'

'The divorce caused a divide, but Bruce's decision to share his transition has caused an even greater divide,' a Keeping Up With The Kardashians production source added.

Kim Kardashian addressed the reports surrounding Bruce in January, telling Entertainment Tonight: 'I think everyone goes through things in life, and I think that story and what Bruce is going through, I think he'll share whenever the time is right. I feel like that's his journey to talk about.'

Bruce, who last month was involved in a fatal car crash that left one woman dead, is currently appearing in the tenth season of the hit reality show, but executive producer Jeff Jenkins refused to confirm rumours that he will star in his own spin-off series.

'You will see Bruce on season 10,' Jeff told USA Today. 'Beyond that there is, to my knowledge, no series in production that, as we said, is its own series. That's really the current situation. As of right now, there's no Keeping Up With Bruce Jenner.'

It was widely believed that Bruce's transition would be documented on a spin-off show. It is still expected that his decision to live life as a woman will be officially announced on Keeping Up With The Kardashians.
