Well, here we are. The finals of the Hottest Man of 2013 competition. In one corner, we have porn star Dirk Caber. And on the other, we have NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams. Who could have known, when we started this battle twenty-six days ago, that this is here we would be today?
Mr. Caber was nice enough to take time out of his busy schedule to answer a few questions for me, about just what it’s like being so hot.
NPOYD: There’s a bio of you that I’ve seen floating around that I really like: “He’s a classical musician and enjoys traveling, learning languages, history, literature, bodybuilding, hiking, skiing and cycling. He also enjoys bondage sessions.” That’s a lot of interests! Let’s start with bondage. How’d you discover that passion? And is there any particular bondage style that really gets you going?
Caber: I really love the artistry of Japanese rope bondage, and can get totally lost in the process of making a man immobile, vulnerable, and artful. But for those times when horniness just isn’t going to cede to patience, you can’t beat a good set of leather cuffs, straps, clips and chains; get ‘em on, strap him down, and give him lots of reason to struggle!
And I used to believe my fascination with bondage started in my late teens with some of the first gay porn I ever came across, discovered the hyper machismo of the leather daddy, and came to understand what might come as part of that package, bondage included. Lately the memory has come back to me of at the age of 7 or 8 playing a game with my friend Peter, which involved me catching him, tying him spreadeagle to the footboard of my bed with bathrobe sashes, and tickling him until he couldn’t breathe. Seems I might’ve had an early inclination… Then in my mid-30’s I had a boyfriend who discovered that this interest lay latent in the back of my mind and declared that anyone with any interest in bondage or S/M had to be certifiably mentally unsound. I thought about that, and realized that the few men I knew in that world were some of the most grounded, intelligent, creative, and sexual men I knew. When that boyfriend and I split shortly thereafter, I made a beeline for the S/M community, learned fast, ended up teaching, and through that world found my way eventually into porn. It’s been quite an adventure.
NPOYD: What about bodybuilding? You obviously spend a good amount of time and effort on your body. What do you enjoy most about your workout time?
Caber: Gym time for me is kind of my inward time. I may be working a set of muscles or getting in my cardio (and I do a LOT of cardio to stay at all lean), but my head is always going through all the stuff I haven’t had a chance to deal with during the rest of the day, how to deal with some crisis or thinking up something nice to do for a friend; often I’m working on music mentally, working out a tune or a harmony for some piece I’m writing. I can work out easily for two and a half or three hours, and even as good as I might feel physically walking out of the gym, it’s rare I don’t walk out feeling like my mental and spiritual worlds aren’t far more in order too.
