There were two beds inside the room that were covered with roaches and the children were found to have scabies.

Deputies initially could not get into the home after knocking, according to WYFF 4 News.

They then went next door to the home of Cox's mother, who confirmed her son was home.

Upon returning to the house, Cox answered the door and said he had been sleeping.

Cox told the officers that his wife was not home because their nine-year-old daughter had appendicitis and they were at the hospital, and their other three children were at school.

The officers could hear crying inside and went to investigate.

The deputy found a door that was chained up, and after unlocked it the two-year-olds ran out.

It was obvious their diapers were overdue for a change and the room was filthy, the officer said.

There was also an extreme roach infestation and trash, food and clothes scattered everywhere.

The deputies said Cox was 'working himself into a rage' while they were there and became belligerent.

He told he was having chest pains, but then demanded they cancel an ambulance after one of the deputies called for EMS.

The DSS decided to remove the toddlers from the home and then pick up the other children from school.

The police report said the toddlers were removed from the home and two of the older children were picked up from school.

After examining the other children - ages 6, 8, 9, and 14 - they determined some of them had lice.

Deputies said the nine-year-old had not been hospitalized for appendicitis, despite what Cox told them.

Cox and Case have each been charged with six counts of unlawful neglect of children.

A neighbor told local media she was shocked to hear what was happening at the house.

'You don't never know what's going on right up under your nose,' Ravan told WYFF.

'I'm just shocked that they had got their kids taken.

'I'm really brokenhearted about it because I miss them running in and out of here.
