No offline mode
New version has a bit fewer crashes but the stream only option is garbage.
NBC eliminated all of its video podcasts in favor of its own NBC news apps. Unfortunately by not providing a method to watch the video when there is no connectivity they also eliminated the ability for many of to watch their broadcasts during our daily commutes. My train service has no reliable cell phone or wifi coverage so streaming video is not an option. Even if I start to stream the video under good coverage it will lose the buffer if I have to leave the app to to check an email or message. This should not happen with modern day multi tasking.
The app is a big time failure because of the inability to download daily episodes for off line or poor connection viewing.
Crap App
NBC took something that worked very well (NBC Nightly News Podcast) and replaced it with this crap app. I used to be able to download the news podcast whether on a high speed internet connection, or my slower speed satellite internet connection at a remote site. Not any more. This app only works on a high speed connection. Even then it stops and starts.
Another thing is that the video freezes while the audio keeps playing, regardless of my internet connection speed.
Way to go NBC!
Very disappointed
I was really unhappy that nbc took away the downloadable podcasts and replaced it with this app that crashes often, can't cache or download videos very well and is a poor effort at cross-selling the other nbc properties. If nbc was going to get rid of the podcasts, then they should've at least attempted a better effort with the app. Chalk this up to the nbc news product or sales manager wanting to push up their download stats at the expense of user experience.
