She is one of the hottest stars around and has access to the world’s most renowned fashion designers.

But Eva Mendes was reflecting on the early days of her fame on Thursday, when she shared a photo from her very first red carpet 14 years ago.

The actress wore a simple white shirt dress that cost just $6 from a charity shop to the premiere of The Others in 2001.

Eva captioned the Throwback Thursday photo, which she posted to her Instagram page: ‘The debut of my latest @nyandcompany collection has me throwing back to my first red carpet.

‘I did my own hair and make up and that's a $6 dress from Goodwill. I've always loved a cheap find. Viva thrift shops! #tbt.’

Eva, who turned 41 earlier this month, has barely aged in the past 14 years, but what has changed hugely is her career.

The Place Beyond The Pines star may have been walking the red carpet for the first time in that image, but nowadays she bounces from one success to another.

Recently Eva, who welcomed daughter Esmeralda into the world on September 12, has been hard at work on her latest collection for New York & Company.

The new mother designed her first collection for the brand in 2013, and has been working with them ever since – even designing a range of bridesmaid dresses.

Meanwhile Eva, who has been dating partner Ryan Gosling for three and a half years, recently described sweatpants as the ‘number one cause of divorce in America’ to Extra.

She later shared a photo of a pair that she owns and the words: 'Dear favorite pair of sweatpants. I was just kidding when I said you're the #1 cause of divorce. Everyone knows that orange crocs are the #1 cause of divorce.

'Either way it was a bad joke and feel terrible if you or anyone thought I was serious. Thanks for understanding sweatpants. Sorry orange crocs.'

And Ryan quickly jumped to her defense, tweeting: 'Obviously sweatpants thing was a joke. Wearing them now. That's right, tweeting in sweatpants. Rats! Said too much! You win again Twitter.'

The following day the 34-year-old joked again: 'Word to the wise. Don't joke about sweatpants or North Korea. Real hot button issues. Trust me.'
