GIRL ABOUT TOWN: Pippa turns her hand to dress designing after failed US TV career... but it's just for charity

Pippa Middleton is having a stab at a new career – this time as a dress designer.

The Duchess of Cambridge’s 31-year-old sister, whose plans to be a presenter on US TV fell flat, tells me she is teaming up with an old pal, designer Tabitha Webb, to bring out a ‘Pippa Dress’ in time for a charity ball she will host in November.

Her plan is to sell it to friends in lieu of donations for a cycle trek across Europe that Pippa, is doing with brother James.

‘I’m feeling guilty asking my friends to donate again,’ Pippa, a regular fundraiser, told me at the Spectator Life party.

Take the plunge in a pleated maxi like Pippa's

While things may not be going her way in the career world, Pippa Middleton has still got it when it comes to the style stakes. She's got a knack similarly to her Duchess sister, seemingly able to knock us dead each time she steps out.

She looked stunning stepping out here at the ParaSnowBall donning a white plunging maxi dress that while safe, ticked all the boxes for us. We are huge fans on the Fashion Finder desk of classic style, whether that's in the form of the little black dress, simple pointed courts or a pleated maxi dress like Pippa's, we think simple and sophisticated is often the best way to go, especially for posh dos such as this. And after that famous moment at Kate's wedding, Pippa can't really go wrong in a white full-length number, can she?

Which is why we've done all the hard work for you, scouting the web for plunging white maxi dresses to help you channel Pippa's style. Sadly we can't promise you the derriere to match, that problem ladies is all yours!

A key scene for Tony Blair’s character is set to be cut from the Broadway production of The Audience because he offended some American theatregoers and made others laugh at the wrong time.

The scene showed Blair justifying going to war in Iraq while the Queen, played by Helen Mirren, recites the Lord’s Prayer.

But, says my impeccable insider: ‘It just didn’t work for Broadway audiences who found it both offensive on religious grounds or unintentionally hilarious.

He may be 75 but John Cleese is showing no signs of slowing down when it comes to having a good knees-up.

I gather that after a stint on the dance floor at the Cotton House Hotel and the aptly named Basil’s Bar in Mustique, he and his 43-year-old wife Jennifer Wade hosted an ‘after-after-party’ at the late Princess Margaret’s former villa Les Jolies Eaux.

I’m told the Monty Python and Fawlty Towers star was dancing on tables and virtually ‘swinging off the chandeliers’.
