'It was the right guy at the wrong time': Rita Ora is philosophical about ex-boyfriend Calvin Harris, as she flashes the flesh in sultry Cosmopolitan shoot

Their once-amicable split turned rather acrimonious when he refused to let her perform the song he wrote for her at the Teen Choice Awards this summer.

But Rita Ora is now taking a more philosophical stance on her relationship with ex-boyfriend Calvin Harris.

'It was the right guy at the wrong time,' the 23-year-old tells the new U.S. issue of Cosmopolitan magazine.  'I was about to start a tour, and he was also all over the place. There’s only so much you can do when you don’t see each other.'

'I really admire people who have long-distance relationships,' she added. 'It’s an incredible achievement. I couldn’t do it.'

Rota certainly shows the Scottish DJ what he's missing in the magazine, posing in a series of revealing outfits, including a plunging blue velvet dress mini dress which shows off her toned figure to the maximum.

'You have to come to terms with loving your body,' she declares in the interview. 'Stand naked in front of the mirror and say, "I’m f****** sexy." That’s where it starts.'

And on the front cover of the magazine, she flashes the flesh in a white swimsuit adorned with silver sequins, a coordinating sparkly metal jacket and distinctive houndstooth nails.

'I'm very proud to say that I think about sex,' she adds to the magazine. 'It’s what everybody thinks about, whether they say it or not. For me, sex is a form of getting to know a person – feeling someone’s skin.'

Rita's appearance on the U.S. issue of the magazine has crowned a successful year for her Stateside.

She has filmed a pivotal role as Christian Grey's adopted sister Mia in the hotly buzzed about film adaptation of Fifty Shades Of Grey; and her Iggy Azalea duet Black Widow was a top ten hit on the Billboard Hot 100.

'As soon as I heard it, I was like, "This is the f***ing song,"' she tells Cosmopolitan. 'Katy Perry co-wrote it – it felt nice to have all women involved.'

Katy co-wrote the track alongside  Azalea, Sarah Hudson, Benny Blanco, and duo Stargate.

Meanwhile, Rita has moved on from Calvin, who she split from back in June, with rapper Ricky Hil - who is the son of designer Tommy Hilfiger.

Back in August, a source told MailOnline that the singer was 'heartbroken and devastated' at Harris's refusal to let her perform their song I Will Never Let You Down.

The DJ pulled the plug at the last minute, just two days before she was due to perform at the popular show.

Rita, of course, felt considerably let down  - the insider told MailOnline: 'She had spent a considerable amount of time and energy preparing for her now cancelled performance of the song and is devastated to let her fans down in this way.

'It is surprising that he has made such a poor choice.'
