While affectionately known as Baby Dilly during the pregnancy, the 19 Kids And Counting stars revealed to People that their little bundle of joy is actually called Israel David.

The honeymoon baby had been expected on March 24, but the boy weighing in at 9 lbs., 10 oz., finally made his entrance into the world late Monday night.

The Dillards told the magazine both mother and bub are doing well.

However, this is not how the pair wanted to bring their little boy into the world, Jill - a midwife - had wanted a natural home birth.

However, it is understood with Israel being so late to the party medical intervention was required and the reality star - who has been married less than a year - had her child in the hospital where she could be monitored.

Derick was meant to help his wife have a husband-coached birth using the Bradley Method - which using breathing techniques to avoid using drugs during the birth - and her mother and female relatives also meant to be present.

The midwife who has helped many women give birth in non-hospital settings, was planning on using a birthing pool.

She told People she wanted to be surrounded by love and serenity - and her was the place that offered that.

'I think home birth is really special because you are in your own environment. You don’t have to pick up, move and have that stall labor. I am looking forward to having the calm, intimate setting of being home.'

Sadly she did not get what she had hoped for it seems from the first picture of Jill and the baby on People.

The young mother is seen on the photograph sitting up in a hospital bed surrounded in monitors and with what appears to be an IV drip attached to her arm.

There are buttons built into the wall behind her and she's in a hospital gown.

On the show she has helped women give birth in tubs and in beds.

While it is not what she wanted, Jill appears in good spirits smiling at the camera with her little boy resting against her.

Derick, who was wearing an Israel Defense Force T-shirt, looked proud as punch to be a daddy, leaning against his wife's bed and smiling.

The arrival of baby Israel was captured by TLC's cameras and will air on May 5 ahead of Mother's Day.

Jill's family have long favoured home births over having them in a hospital.

Her sister in law, Josh’s wife Anna, welcomed her first two children at home and a third at a midwifery center.

Her mother Michelle had a number of her 19 children at home, and utilized the help of a midwife or doula even in hospital.

Derick has been keeping fans in the loop and on Saturday, the first-time father shared the latest update on the pregnancy on his social media pages writing: 'Maybe we'll have an Easter baby!'

The photo showed a very pregnant Jill holding a chalkboard sign that read '41 weeks, 4 days' showing her most recent progress.

On Friday, the mother-to-be tried to kick start her little one's birth by treating herself to some spicy Mexican food.

'Out to lunch... maybe this spicy Mexican food will make the baby come! Braxton Hicks contractions with this weather so far.

'We shall see what the weekend brings! #nobabyyet #lunchwithmyhubby,' she captioned a selfie of herself and Derick.

Derick reflected on the pregnancy journey recently on the Dillard family website.

On Thursday, he expressed his excitement about welcoming his baby boy, which some speculated that the labor was underway.

'I can't even describe right now the anticipation I am feeling, as I am about to get to meet my firstborn son for the first time face to face,' he wrote.

'So many people have already testified that nothing can quite describe that moment and that I'll just have to experience it for myself. When I look around, I can see new life everywhere. The trees are budding, which means summer is near.

'My wife, Jill, is beginning to have contractions which means that the birth of our son is near.'

Of course, we now know he had a few more days to wait.
