Fans are divided over the new Terminator: Genisys trailer - which hit the web Monday - because it contains a crucial plot twist.

However, the three-minute preview does a better job explaining the fifth installment's confusing, time-hopping, alternate reality premise.

Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) travels back in time to save Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke), but the past has been changed.

But the biggest baddie they battle just happens to be the leader of their resistance - John Connor.

Around the 90-second mark, Sarah believes John is human until the Guardian shoots him and he comes back to life.
