It should come as no surprise that Academy Award-winning Francis Ford Coppola is as successful as a hotelier as he is as a director.

Not only is Coppola the mastermind behind the Blancaneaux Lodge in San Ignacio, Belize, he also owns the Turtle Inn, also in Belize, La Lancha in Guatemala, Jardin Escondido in Argentina, and Palazzo Margherita in Italy.

In Belize, many of the Blancaneaux Lodge's luxurious, secluded villas comes with its own private pool and a personal attendant.

Not a bad deal, considering the Garden View cabanas start at $279 (£186) per night.

Longtime environmental crusader, Leonardo DiCaprio, is taking his passion one step further with the recent announcement of his plans for Blackadore Caye in Belize.

The 104-acre unpopulated island, which he purchased in 2005 for $1.75 million, will soon be home to a luxury eco-resort, scheduled to open in 2018.

With over-water villas, artificial reefs with 'fish shelters' and marine grass nursery, DiCaprio hopes to help rehabilitate the area, which suffers from sand erosion and over-fishing, with his new multi-million dollar resort.  

DiCaprio's 104-acre island is in development to be turned into an eco-friendly resort.

DiCaprio hopes to build 68 resort villas and 48 private homes on the island, which will cost anywhere between $5 and $15 million.

'I couldn’t have gone to Belize and built on an island and done something like this, if it weren’t for the idea that it could be groundbreaking in the environmental movement.'

Other rehabilitative features of the island will include a manatee conservation area and newly-planted mangrove trees.

The newly-opened Cromlix underwent an extensive refurbishment ahead of the 2014 Ryder Cup when Murry transformed the Victorian Perthshire mansion into a luxury 15-bedroom, five-star property.

Situated in the picturesque Scottish countryside, the hotel is set on 34 acres of secluded woodlands with its own chapel and house loch.

There is also a reception hall, two drawing rooms, a conservatory, dining room and meeting rooms, all outfitted with specially-sourced antique furniture.

Not only does the hotel - and the Olympic champion's involvement - attract new visitors to the area, but Murray also hopes that it will lend support to other local businesses.

'I'm pleased to be able to give something back to the community I grew up in,' he said in a statement.

The hotel is also home to the Octagon Bar and Cleaver East restaurant, which serves Irish and European cuisine, as well as the famed Penthouse Suite, which goes for £1,234 if booked online.
