He's a rug rat! Shia LaBeouf takes his rattail on the red carpet as he attends screening at Tribeca Film Festival

He's been sporting a very bold hairstyle as of late - one that's certainly not considered to be glamorous.

But Shia LaBeouf had absolutely no qualms about showcasing his bizarre curly mohawk and braided rattail while walking a red carpet on Thursday.

The 28-year-old proudly displayed his wacky 'do, as he attended a screening of Love True documentary at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City.

Aside from his hairstyle, the Transformers star looked surprisingly dapper.

Shia cleaned up nicely in a slick black suit, crisp white blouse, and charcoal tie.

The scruffy-faced star personalized his ensemble with laceless faded black flats and studded earrings.

Over recent months, Shia has grown out his hair and added to it with the longer hairpiece, which he frequently styles in a long plait. And it seems his unusual look is here to stay.

The troubled actor first revealed his new image a couple of months ago, and after being offered $10,000 by a pest control company to chop off his unsightly rattail, the look remains.

In March, Terminix referred to Shia's hairstyle on its Facebook page along with a graphic of the back of a head with a rat on it and the rat's tail going down the back of the person's head.

'Just like we refuse to let rats plague homes, we refuse to let this emerging trend of rat tails plague our society. It must be stopped! Shia LaBeouf appears to be the leader of this movement, and we are making him the following offer: Remove your rat tail, and the charity of your choice gets $10,000,' the company wrote.

It was followed by a second posting: 'We're serious, BTW.'

However, the actor - who is currently dating his Nymphomaniac co-star Mia Goth - seemed completely unfazed by the campaign.

The couple are usually inseparable, after having been an item since 2013, but Shia made a solo appearance at the screening on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Shia will star in Man Down, in the lead role of former U.S. Marine Gabriel Drummer who seeks out his son, accompanied by his best friend and a survivor, in a post-apocalyptic America.

Kate Mara and Gary Oldman co-star in the war thriller, which will be released on October 30.
