Catch of the day! Robbie Savage displays chiselled pecs and rippling abs in dramatic weight loss pic after intense 12 week fitness regime

He was all too often mocked during his playing days, but there was no joking on Friday morning as former footballer Robbie Savage showed off the undeniably impressive results of his new fitness regimen on Twitter.

The 40-year-old displayed hitherto unseen definition to his upper body in a before and after shot shared with his 1.52 million followers.

Robbie had previously been labelled ‘podgy’ by some after seemingly going to seed following his retirement from the game in 2011.

But the new shot reveals chiselled pectorals and nicely defined abdominals as he poses in a pair of grey jogging bottoms.

Captioning the spliced image, Robbie admits he achieved his dramatic results in just three months.

‘12 weeks .. 12st 12 .. 12.4% bodyfat @JoshMchale,’ he wrote. 

The former Welsh International plied his trade with Crewe Alexandra, Birmingham City, Blackburn Rovers and Derby County before hanging up his boots. 

Away from punditry he also displayed some impressive ballroom skills on the ninth series of Strictly Come Dancing in 2011 - reaching ninth place with professional dance partner Ola Jordan.

The BT Sport pundit recently rounded on Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli for missing his team's 4-1 mauling against Arsenal in April. 

'Pathetic isn't it? You're going to miss an FA Cup quarter-final?' he said. 

'I don't know how unwell he is, but to miss an FA Cup quarter-final when you're feeling a bit ill? Nonsense. I would have to be really, really ill to miss that game.'
