Grace Rebecca Mann, 20 (left), was found unconscious by two female roommates on Friday in the home they shared in Fredericksburg (inset), as their fourth roommate, Steven Vander Briel, 30 (right), fled the scene. A two-hour manhunt ensued, and put a local high school on lock-down, before Vander Briel was found emerging from the woods near a church and was arrested. He has now been charged with first-degree murder and abduction. An official cause of death has not been released, but reports say Mann, a popular junior, was asphyxiated and had a plastic bag lodged in her throat. Her father is Thomas Mann, a juvenile and domestic relations court judge in Fairfax County.

Caroline Irby was charged with 10 counts of animal cruelty and held on $10,000 bond after 97 emaciated dogs were found locked in rusty cages in her barn in Manchester, Tennessee, last Saturday. The charges are believed to be related to 10 other dogs found dead in the barn, stacked in a wheelbarrow covered in maggots. The dogs that were rescued were riddled with fear, emaciated and covered in feces, having been living in 'several inches of their own waste', authorities said. Some had burns from the ammonia in their own urine. The dogs have now been moved to an animal shelter in Lebanon, Tennessee, where they are receiving treatment.

A new exhibition at the Museum of the City of New York shows landmarks that were destroyed before they could be saved by the city's preservation law, which turns 50 on Sunday. Photos show the beauty of the old Pennsylvania Station (top left), which was demolished in 1963 to make way for Madison Square Garden, and 19th century landmarks such as Soho's St John's Chapel (bottom right) and the City Hall Post Office (bottom left) that did not survive to the 21st century. Others such as Randall Memorial Church Snug Harbor Music Hall (top right, left) were demolished while nearby historic buildings such as the Snug Harbor Music Hall (top right, right) survived long enough to be granted landmark status.

A baby sitter accused of fatally shaking a 14-month-old baby in her care has been convicted of aggravated manslaughter and child endangerment but acquitted of murder. Michelle Heale of Tom's River, New Jersey claimed she was trying to burp Mason Hess (top right) when he began choking on his applesauce, but when she pulled him off her shoulder his neck snapped backwards, killing the boy. However she now faces 30 years in prison after a jury found her guilty of killing the youngster. When the verdict was read out, the 46-year-old (pictured in court on Friday bottom right) sobbed uncontrollably and told her lawyer over-and-over again: 'I didn't do it.' During her testimony, she broke down as she re-enacted what happened with a doll (left).

In her photography project, Inside Views, French Photographer Floriane de Lassee spots movement in the standstill of the night and captures the essence of what people do when they're alone in cities full of millions of people. She's taken photos in cities across the world, including New York, Paris and Shanghai.

Almost one million pages of documents were donated by the bomber's lead attorney. They reveal McVeigh (left) viewed himself as a 'Paul Revere-type messenger' and also thought his defense team should receive $800,000 from the government. Kristen Lindsey from Brenham, Texas, allegedly hunted the animal down and shot it with a bow believing it was feral. But a local rescue center say the cat, believed to be called Tiger, was domesticated and had been missing for around two weeks. Beneath the shocking image, left, Lindsey, pictured right, wrote: 'My first bow kill... lol. The only good feral tomcat is one with an arrow through it's head. Vet of the year award... gladly accepted.' The Colorado State graduate lost her job at the Washington Animal Clinic after the image began circulating online.

Jiaro Mendez and Elias Acevedo (pictured in all three frames) were found to be 'highly intoxicated' by Tulsa police following the fight that broke out in the parking lot of their shared Oklahoma apartment on April 14 around 1am (Acevedo being arrested left following the incident). The pair, covered in blood, were taken to hospital where they were treated for lacerations to their body, and Acevedo (bottom inset), 21, has since been arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon, according to the police report.

Utah photographer, Alan Lawrence, created a photo series in which his 18-month-old son, Wil (pictured), who has Down Syndrome appears to be flying. He plans to compile the photos in a calendar. Lawrence said his goal is to raise awareness about Down Syndrome.

The incredible pre-migration of a colony of over 1000 spider crabs has been caught on camera by an underwater photographer. The creatures were discovered at Blairgowries Pier in Southern Victoria but are fast on the move to their proper migration at Rye Pier in a few weeks time.

The city of Naypyidaw was first named the capital of Myanmar a decade ago, replacing Yangon following a multi-million dollar development project. However, the city remains a relative ghost-town, despite such efforts. The super-sized highways, designed to accommodate military and government vehicles, span up to 20 lanes in some places, yet people are rarely spotted on the streets.

It seems most people can't wait to shower babies with affection - pets included! Gemma the pit bull was filmed at home in California enthusiastically greeting a baby boy named Elliot with kisses. Footage shows her lovingly licking the infant as he attempts to fend her away with his hands. Despite Elliot's best efforts, Gemma keeps licking away.

A zookeeper at the Zoological Center in Tel Aviv caught some hilarious footage of a selection of animals, including a lion, a rhino and a lemur, having a drink. Placing a GoPro camera at the bottom of their respective water troughs, the zookeeper recorded a total of 30 hours worth of footage.
