He missed out on the golden statue at this year's Oscars, but Benedict Cumberbatch is getting one of his own thanks to a celebrity artist friend Tristan Schoonrad.

The artist, known as Schoony has made a new piece based on the same original sculpture that appeared in the 2013 blockbuster.

It set the actor back £7000 and is not the first replica Schoony has made of his iconic work.

Benedict joins the likes of Brad Pitt and Damon Albarn who have also had similar pieces made by the high profile artist.

Schoony first started his career in film and special effects and only shifted his focus to the art work when a friend suggested he exhibit his work.

While this one piece caught the eye of the showbiz set, he's also had things showcased on a plinth in Parliament Square in 2011.

The Boy Soldier was created as a life-size child with a grenade and tin helmet using moulds taken of his nephew Kai when he was aged seven.

The artist told Mail Online when the film was coming out a few yeas ago, 'My brother was kind enough to let me borrow Kai for these models and he was great.

'When I was taking a mould of the face he had to be so still and he kept the same facial expression the whole time.

'Kai was a bit indifferent about doing it at first. I think he would prefer to be out playing football or something.'
