Agyness Deyn beams on the set of new zombie thriller Patient Zero... despite filming terrifying first action scenes with Matt Smith

Agyness Deyn was providing a little light relief from the trepidation of a late night filming with zombies recently.

The 32-year-old former pixie-cropped model giggled in between takes of terrifying new thriller Patient Zombie, where she was joined by Doctor Who actor Matt Smith to film a freak invasion scene.

It's the first time that Matt, also 32, and his co-star have been seen filming for the Chicago-based scary movie, which saw them trapped in a smashed-up car in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire on Wednesday night.

Agyness (who plays Janet in the film) and Matt (whose character remains undisclosed) were filmed when a crowd of frenzied zombies attacked their car.

The rabies-ridden undead climb on top of the car, breaking windows and trying to force entry from the roof, in attempt to get at the pair.

In one scene, a male creature is seen reaching right into the vehicle while model-turned-actress Agyness delivers a convincing look of panic and fright.

Out of character though, the action didn't appear to have stirred Agyness, who giggled as she talked to crew members in an enormous puffa jacket.

Her model physique was on show in a pair of distressed denim jeans, which she paired with Converse trainers and a baggy, white T-shirt.

Matt's displayed a similarly bundled-up appearance as he paraded around the set in a shearling-collared denim jacket and jeans.

The former Time Lord was equally buoyant around the set and seemed to direct other members of the crew with a pointed finger.

After all, this type of zombie battle isn't too far removed from the actor's most recent projects including Doctor Who and Pride & Prejudice & Zombies.

Patient Zero centres on a global pandemic of a super strain of rabies, which causes a new species to mutate with a particular drive for violence.

Given his acting history, it is expected that Smith will play the gifted human who possesses the ability to speak to the 'Infected' and leads the last survivors on a hunt for a cure.

Matt previously played the eleventh Doctor and says he's still grateful for the opportunity to take over in the second series when it relaunched on the BBC in 2005.

Speaking to The Independent recently, Matt said: 'I'm ever grateful to Doctor Who. It changed my life and I wouldn't be here without it. Hopefully, you go and find new challenges.'

'Doctor Who is really growing in America. In the last three years, I've really noticed that every time I go back, there are more and more people coming to the show.'

His forthcoming role as a Pride And Prejudice's Mr Bennet's cousin Mr. Collins in new parody Pride & Prejudice & Zombies is also hotly-anticipated in 2016.

On his role, Smith said: 'I think the film has an edge. Just seeing the women fight is cool and sexy – there's something quite hip about it.'

He added: 'You can never take anything for granted as an actor.'
