'Please focus on my show': Conan O'Brien hits back at one of his show writers who went on Twitter rant about 'state of late night comedy'

One of Conan O'Brien's show writers took to Twitter to rant about late night comedy television late last week - taking aim at hosts such as Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel and James Corden.

And although Andres du Bouchet quickly deleted his expletive-laden comments in which he attacked the other comedians' celebrity-centric segments and use of pranks and games, it didn't go unnoticed by the Conan host.

The veteran TV host took to his own Twitter on Sunday to respond: 'I wish one of my writers would focus on making my show funnier instead of tweeting stupid things about the state of late night comedy.'

Du Bouchet - who has reportedly worked for Conan for six years - started his tirade last last week saying: 'Comedy in 2015 needs a severe motherf***ing shakeup. No celebrities, no parodies, no pranks, no mash-ups or hashtag wars.'

He continued 'and shove your lip-synching up your *ss.'

'Prom King Comedy. That's what I call all this sh**. You've let the popular kids appropriate the very art form that helped you deal. F***.'

He added: 'None of the funniest stuff ever involved celebrity cameos.'

After deleting the posts du Bouchet returned to his social media account with his tail between his legs, saying: 'Once again I'm a bonehead for tweeting as a fan of comedy instead of as a guy who earns a living doing it.'

'Now comes the inevitable dressing down at work for criticizing other talk shows!'

Finally, he apologised with one last Tweet: 'Sorry for being a bloviating elitist windbag last night. I know tons of talented people are making the stuff I enjoy sh**ting all over.'

Fallon is well-known for getting his celebrity guests to take part in a variety of silly and often messy games, while Kimmel is an infamous prankster, creating spoof videos that almost always end up going viral on the internet.

Corden, who joined CBS to host The Late Late Show last month has a popular segment called Carpool Karaoke and has had guests such as Mariah Carey and Jennifer Hudson in his car to belt out their hit songs with him.

O'Brien's career started in the 1980s when he had long stints writing for Saturday Night Live and The Simpsons before becoming host of Late Night With Conan O'Brien in 1993 and the Tonight Show from 2009 and 2010.

He has hosted Conan since 2010 and opts for a more classic approach with scripted comedy and celebrity interviews.
