'I'm in utter disbelief': Derek Hough injures BOTH feet in 'freak accident' during DWTS rehearsal and could be off the show for some time

Derek Hough might not be able to continue on Dancing With The Stars after injuring BOTH his feet in an accident Monday night.

The pro dancer, 29, shared a photo from the ER on Instagram showing him with a support bandage on his left ankle and a protective support shoe on his right foot.

'A fluke accident happened that involved a light and some stairs. Can't believe it, wish I had a cooler story to tell,' he wrote next to his post on Wednesday.

As speculation grew about the extent of his injuries, Derek, who was seen out and about in LA using a crutch to support himself, took to social media to explain to his fans what had happened.

'All that dancing , flipping , jumping and the thing that stops me in my tracks is something as simple as a light and some stairs. I'm doing everything I possibly can to have a quick recovery and I'm determined to come back stronger than ever.'

Derek went on: 'I appreciate all the love and support, you guys are the best. And thank you to Mark, BC Jean and Corky Ballas for staying with me at the hospital until 2am. Love you.'

'This is new territory for me , I'm usually able to work through injury but this one has literally floored me. But like I said before I'm determined to come back all guns blazing ... soon!!! #setbackisasetupforacomeback.'

Ouch! Derek shared this photo, which he later deleted, showing a grim-faced Mark Ballas and girlfriend Britney Jean Carlson. 'Just getting home from the hospital,' he wrote. 'Not the best of news. I'm in utter disbelief'

Mark Ballas accompanied Hough to the hospital with his girlfriend Britney Jean Carslon and shared a picture of himself pushing Derek in a wheelchair.

'Long night in the ER with @derekhough nothing worse than seeing a fellow dancer get hurt especially your brother,' he wrote alongside it.

Derek, too, shared a photo from the ER of his injured feet early Tuesday morning but then later deleted it.

According to ET Online, he had written alongside the Instagram snap: 'Just getting home from the hospital. Not the best of news. I'm in utter disbelief.'

Fellow dance pro Mark, 28, told E! News Wednesday morning that the DWTS regular is awaiting the results of some tests to see how bad the injuries are.

'The MRI results will come in [today] probably and we'll know more, but we're just praying that everything's OK,' said Mark.

Although he deleted the ER photos from his social media accounts, Derek appeared to confirm the bad news with a new post, showing himself and gymnast Nastia Liukin dancing the tango on Monday night's spring break episode of DWTS.

Over the photo were the words: 'Your SETBACK is a platform for your COMEBACK.'

His injuries are also a blow for the Spring Spectacular at Radio City Music hall in New York where Derek is the male lead. He was MIA from Tuesday's show.

Media reports Wednesday suggested that Derek had broken his toe while rehearsing for the DWTS 10th Anniversary Special following Monday night'sepisode of the dance competition.

As he hobbled to get some ice, it's suggested, he fell down some stairs, twisting his ankle and suffering ligament damage.

He'd been rehearsing with Maria Menounos for the special and the TV host posted an Instagram photo of herself frowning as she sat on some backstage stairs.

She wrote alongside it: 'Really angry at this stupid stair for hurting our @derekhough out last night. Ugh....#DWTS #DWTS20 #badstair #menough ??'

She'd earlier shared some video of the two of them rehearsing together.

There's still been no official word from ABC that airs DWTS about the extent of Derek's injuries or how long he might be gone from the show.

No comment either so far about from Olympic gold medalist Nastia who has been partnered with Derek on DWTS this season.

On Monday night's spring break episode, the pair danced a tango together, earning 34 out of 40 points from the judges.

E! News reported Nastia will now be rehearsing with Sasha Farber, one of the troupe members who also filled in for Derek's 10th Anniversay Special performance.
