Hilary Duff displays her incredibly taut tummy in a push-up bra and tiny shorts as she says she'll never 'go on an actual diet'

She has one impressive bikini body, but Hilary Duff claims she doesn't diet.

'I'd rather have someone pull my fingernails off than hunker down and go on an actual diet,' the 27-year-old talent said while gracing the cover of Shape magazine's May issue.

But the mother-of-one clearly has some tricks up her sleeve, as she displayed her incredibly taut tummy and toned legs while front and centre on the glossy fitness publication.

The Younger star said she maintains her sculpted figure by going to the gym three times a week - and switching up her workout routines.

'I work out with weighted balls, battle ropes, and big rubber bands,' the Sparks singer said.

'I do this think with a sledge-hammer where I swing it and hit a rubber block, and it gets out all of my aggressions,' she continued, 'Everyone is like "Uh-oh, Hilary's got the hammer - get out of the way!"'

Hilary also shapes up on a daily basis by carrying her 35-pound three-year-old tot, Luca, all around town.

'The other day we went to Disneyland and he fell asleep in my arms, and I had to carry him back to my car, which was a 30-minute walk. I was dying,' the Elixer author explained.

Though she appears to be pretty put together, the former Lizzie Maguire star is the first to admit she isn't perfect.

'Some days I feel great, others I feel pretty normal, and that's acceptable,' Hilary told Shape.

As far as her indulgences go, the former Disney darling said she loves to splurge on wine and believes the 'key to a happy life is cheese.'

But her absolute favourite snack is pretty healthy: a 'Wasa cracker topped with avocado, radish, chica seeds, a little olive oil, some sea salt, lemon, and dill.'

Talking about her eating preferences, Hilary revealed she roasts all her vegetables with olive oil, as steamed veggies 'bore' her.

For the cover of the magazine, the beauty is glowing in a multipatterned push-up ruffled bikini top and tiny cut-off denim shorts.

She maintains some of her modesty by partially covering up with an unbuttoned rose coloured cardigan, as her hands are tucked into her pockets.

Hilary's lustrous blonde locks are styled in soft waves, as her face is made up to highlight her big eyes and full pout.

She proudly boasted about her cover and feature, tweeting: 'I'm so excited about this cover! Thanks @Shape_Magazine for a fun shoot! Go pick up your May copy on Tuesday!!!'

She added: 'Love @shape_magazine and was so honored to be on the cover! It's the May issue! Go pick it up this Tuesday!'
