Is there beef between Arnold Schwarzenegger and Robert De Niro?

Anyone who seen them pose 'together' on the red carpet at the Tribeca Film Festival certainly might think so.

The two Hollywood stars could not have stood any further apart without looking like they were posing for separate photos on Wednesday night.

The acting legends were both at the festival for a screening of 67-year-old Arnie's latest movie Maggie, abut a man whose daughter is infected with a disease that is slowly turning her into a cannibalistic zombie.

And it looked like the 71-year-old Goodfellas star might have been worried he'd catch the disease in real life, as he practically kept a quarantine zone around the Governator.

Such photo ops normally provide the opportunity for actors to throw an arm around each other show off how pally they are with their fellow superstar peers.

That's more like it! Just a day earlier Arnie had been seen laughing and joking with Tom Cruise at CinemaCon in Vegas

However Arnie's arms remained as stoically by his side as the Terminator's, while Vito Corleone himself probably couldn't have convinced De Niro to prise his own fingers apart.

It actually looked like someone had tried to do just that, as evidenced by the bandage on De Niro's thumb.

But the thing that stood out like a sore thumb - even more than the literal sore thumb - was the awkward gap between the screen veterans.

In fact, both men looked relieved when Arnie's Maggie co-star Joely Richardson came to fill the Joely Richardson-sized chasm between them - indeed neither man barely needed to move to let her park in the middle.

The 50-year-old didn't seem to notice the chill on either shoulder, smiling as she wore a dark navy loose fitting v-necked jumpsuit.

It wasn't Arnie's first awkward photo op this week either - on Tuesday the former Governor of California was snapped at CinemaCon in Las Vegas looking confused by Tom Cruise standing beside him.

In fact Arnie looked completely incredulous that Cruise had dared put his arm around him - which might explain De Niro's hesitance. 

Either way, everyone else snapped at the Tribeca film festival appeared happy to be there and comfortable with the company.
